WELCOME TO T.S. MANTLE V.C.

YEOVIL & DISTRICT

SEA CADET & ROYAL MARINES CADET CORPS

Yeovil and District Sea Cadet Corps is known as T.S. MANTLE V.C. and was founded in 1953, it has served the young people of YEOVIL since then.

We are based in Building 147 at the Royal Naval Air Station YEOVILTON (HMS HERON), having moved from Chelston Avenue in Yeovil in 1996.

Since we moved we are attracting young people from across South Somerset and North Dorset who come from a radius of about 15 miles.

The units Royal Marine Cadet Detachment was formed in January 2008.

T.S. MANTLE V.C.

We are located on the edge of the airfield, this gives the Cadets the unique sights, sounds and smells of the base, they have unrivaled experiences and opportunities which are unavailable to others.

The Unit is the largest in the district with a complement made up from Sea Cadets, Marine Cadets and Juniors.

Our Cadets come from the following schools; Huish Episcopi, Bucklers Mead, Preston, Westfield, Ansford, King Arthurs, Chilton Cantello, Gryphon, Stanchester and Wadham.

Yeovil's Sea and Marine Cadets are offered a structured progressive learning plan with a wide range of opportunities of courses and trips that are not available to persons outside the Corps.

If you are aged between 10 and 18 and you are looking for a fun, yet challenging way to increase your experiences, without any pressure to join the military, take a closer look at what we can offer you.

T.S. MANTLE V.C. is open Tuesday and Friday nights 1845-2115 for the Senior Cadets (12-18 years old) and Friday nights 1845-2115 for juniors. Other activities take place during the week and some weekends as advertised.

There is organised MoD transport available to and from Yeovil.

THE VICTORIA CROSS

Displayed on the main deck in the unit we have a replica Victoria Cross and the official citation for Leading Seaman Jack MANTLE

UNIT'S ADOPTED CREST

Among many other things that took place in millenium year 2000 we were looking for something to assist with our identity and be more distinctive.

Commodore Bill COVINGTON RN then Commanding Officer of HMS HERON (RNAS YEOVILTON), graciously gave his permission for TS MANTLE VC to design an adapted version of the parent unit's crest to use as our own.
