Units History

Thurso SCC began in the early 1960's by a newly formed committee of local people and would meet in old buildings in the town centre, and was recognsed by the Sea cadet association of Great Britain. After a unformed staff was set up and the number of Cadets grew, their was a need for a larger unit to accommodate them and their needs, but there were no sutible buildings available in the Thurso Area.
The committee decided that the Cadets would require a building of their own to be built for their future use, with proper storage areas for their future use. The committee and uniformed staff began to fundraise in order to build a new unit. Local fundraising, raised the majority of the money with the remainder being obtained from national grants.
In 1962 the committee obtained land from the then Lord Thurso and built the unit that we still have to this day.
