The Sea Cadets is a Nationwide organisation, the oldest youth organisation in the world in fact.
But that does not mean we are stuck in the past, far from it.
Our cadets have the opportunity to learn about all aspects of seamanship, from tying knots, to handling boats - pulling, power and sail.
There are opportunities to go offshore sailing, as well as a whole host of other activies, some you would expect, such as parade training, others maybe not so, such as shooting and expeditions.
There are also opportunities each year for cadets to go on foreign exchanges with other cadet forces around the world, although as you would expect, competition for these places is fierce.
As well as training activities within the Unit, we also hold weekends on board and at camps.
There is also the opportunity to attend District, Area and National courses, which we obviously encourage our cadets to attend as much as possible and the range of courses available to our cadets is very impressive indeed.
There are no special skills you need to join us, we will give you those.
If you are between the ages of 10 and 18 and have an enquiring attitude that is all that is needed.
We also welcome enquiries from adults to join our ranks, after all, we need good volunteers to teach our cadets!
Again, no special skills are required, just an enthusiastic approach.
We would especially welcome enquiries from former members of the armed forces and their reserves, especially those of the Royal Navy.
Visit the Unit on a parade night, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday 18:45 to 21:15.
There is no committment.
