Our Unit
The Sea Cadet Corps is a national youth organisation for boys and girls aged 10 to 18. It is open to all young people regardless of race, religion or colour and we draw our members from all backgrounds.
The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines.
Through adventurous activities Cadets become self reliant, and through team work Cadets develop consideration and respect for others. The Corps encourages high personal standards and a sense of purpose, and provides a sound foundation for future Careers.
There are Sea Cadet Units throughout the whole of Great Britain therefore it makes sense to split Britain into different sectors, these are Called Areas.
In total there are Six Areas: Northern (N), North West (NW), Eastern (E), South West (SW), London (L) & Southern (S). SCUNTHORPE are in the Eastern Area.
Each Area is then split down into Districts. In Eastern Area there are 9 Districts - Cambs & Beds, Fens, East Anglia, Trent, South Yorks & Humber, North & East Yorks, West Yorks, Northants & Leicester and Herts.
This breakdown is essential when entering competitions as they work like a knockout. Firstly, Units will enter at District level. If successful they will then go through to Area level, the best Units from each District against each other within that certain Area. If successful at Area you then compete at National level, the best Units from all 6 areas against each other. The winners then become the National Champion within the whole of the Sea Cadet Corps.

HM Ship Affilliation
Our Unit affilated Ship is HMS Explorer.
HMS Explorer’s specific role is to provide training opportunities for midshipmen from the Yorkshire Universities of Hull, Sheffield and Leeds. The Midshipmen are part time reservists who wish to learn more about the Royal Navy, its roles, operations and customs, the ship mainly operates along the east coast of the UK and deploys twice a year to many and varied destinations as far away as France, Belgium, Netherlands and Northern Ireland.
The Headquarters are located at Navy House in Pearson Park, close to both Hull University and the Ship's berth in Hull Marina putting the unit in the unique position of having its own premises. The building is a late 19th Century town house with two offices and four classrooms, as well as a bar and hard standing outside for drill training.
