Awards
The McBeath Trophy went to T.S. Salisbury, and was received by Mr Phil Lawes, the Unit Chairman.
A new award this year, the Presidents Award was presented by the Area President, Mr Chris Ledger, to Mr Phil Lawes of Salisbury Unit
The Bennet Cup was awarded to T.S. Salisbury and was received by Mr Phil Lawes.

Phase 2 of New Unit
Phase two -The upper floor with its amazing views over the River Avon, will contain the following; 6 x Modern Classrooms, 2 x Offices, 1 x Store room, 1 x Galley, 1 x Wardroom, 2 x Toilets, 1 x Fire Escape and a Lift. When this has been completed not only will we have a very modern teaching facility for the Sea Cadet Corps but somewhere where the local community share. All of this is now very much in our thoughts. With the current economic climate we, like many others are now finding it very difficult to seek funding.
With this in mind it has now been decided that all staff, committee friends and family should help with the labour .We will be guided by local professional Carpenters, Plumbers and it goes without saying the Electric will be fitted by a fully qualified Electrician. With the guidance of a local carpenter and his team we can now see our way to make a saving of nearly £50,000.00. The quality of work and the finish will be of a high standard and we can build what we truly need to build. We have already started to make savings by asking people for their help and by finding cheaper products and materials ourselves.

New TS Salisbury unit opens
Phase 1 of the building work has now been completed. This delivers a new unit building on the same site as the original. The building has been designed with the best accommodation and facilities required for the cadets and unit to achieve great things.
An open day has been arranged for Saturday 5th September and cadet parade nights will commence from Monday 7th September.
Fundraising will continue in order to start further projects within the new building.

Final parade night at TS Salisbury
The old TS Salisbury building has closed its doors for the final time and will shortly be demolished.
From Monday 20th October 2008 parade nights will be in a temporary building in Salisbury.
The unit will then be rebuilt on the very same spot delivering a new fresh modern HQ to take TS Salisbury forward. Once this major project is complete the new premises will provide excellent fit for purpose facilities for the on going development of current and future generations that may pass through the unit.

Pulling crews success at the 2008 National Regatta
Over the weekend 6th and 7th September 2008 the National pulling regatta was held at the ExCEL centre in London. All 4 pulling crews from Salisbury were there to represent the Southern area as a result of the earlier ‘history making’ clean sweep which saw all 4 crews beat all competition at the Southern Area regatta.
The hard work, dedication, training and coaching was evident and resulted in the most successful weekend in the unit’s history at the National regatta. Competition at the National regatta is as tough as it comes with the best crews from each area against each other. With all the teams taking a podium place in each of the categories the collective team also took the overall combined trophy. Congratulations to all of the teams and coaching staff on this achievement.

Summer Camp 2008
Salisbury Sea Cadet’s 2008 summer camp was held at Cleavel Point, Poole Harbour during the 1st week of August. Over the week cadets and staff took part in dinghy sailing, expedition training, kayaking and air rifle shooting.
Over 30 cadets attended this week with the same number of staff and visitors making it an excellent and fun packed week. In terms of achievement nearly 100 qualifications were attained across each of the activities ranging from RYA Start Sailing to the advanced Seamanship module and from camp craft to marksman. Well done to everyone.
