About The Sea Cadet Corps
The Sea Cadet Corps is a nationwide voluntary uniformed youth organisation, open to all young people aged 12 to 18, Marine Cadets for young people aged 13 to 18 and with Junior Sections open to those of 10 to 12 years of age. It is Britain's most successful nautical organisation for the development of young people with Units run by enthusiastic adult volunteers.
We have a rank structure modelled on that of the Royal Navy, giving Cadets an opportunity to progress and take up positions of responsibility as they acquire skills and seniority. On reaching 18, many Cadets choose to stay on as adult instructors, when their training and talents become invaluable.
The remit of the Sea Cadets is to provide fun, friendship, adventure and learning new skills based on waterborne and land based activities.

ALL AT SEA but not left out on a limb
The Marine Society & Sea Cadets – Investing in young people
Britain’s largest maritime charity is supporting 14,000 youngsters across the UK by giving them an opportunity to challenge themselves and grow in confidence. The charity understands the difficulties faced by today’s young people, which can leave them feeling frustrated, isolated and alone.
The Sea Cadets offer practical and adventurous activities based on a nautical theme aimed at developing vital life skills, like team work, responsibility, and offering young people a chance to find their feet amongst new friends. Sea Cadets get involved in all aspects of boating, sailing, navigation and marine engineering. They can study for Btecs alongside their school courses and take part in offshore sailing and camps.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the charity, entirely responsible for the day to day running of a Sea Cadet Unit and the training of cadets. Sea Cadets depend on their steady support to enable them to reach their full potential.
Positive role models can make a huge difference and helping young people to meet the challenges of growing up is both rewarding and satisfying. Ryde Unit wants to hear from people with common sense and an empathy with young people who may have business or motivational skills that can apply to help run or support the Unit Management Team.
The Marine Society & Sea Cadets core purpose is to celebrate Britain’s Maritime heritage and contribute to its future development by supporting young people as Sea Cadets. Use your skill and experience to help them navigate their way to success and gain a sense of personal achievement along the way.
