On Saturday 26th January 2008 Cadets, Juniors, Staff, Management Committee Members, Parents, Supporters and even ex-cadets set out to take up the challenge of swimming the English Channel.
However, due to a National shortage of goose grease, it was decided to carry out the challenge at Doynings pool in Redhill.
To complete the equivalent distance the participants needed to complete 1,320 lengths, this was reached with ease and the swimmers went on to complete 3078 lengths, 2.3 times the distance required! So instead of just going from Dover to Calais, the 58 swimmers covered the distance from Dover to Calais and BACK AGAIN and even had lengths spare to swim a few times around Dover harbour, a total of 77 kilometres or 48 miles!
A big "BZ" goes out to all those who swam and supported, as well as those who sponsored the participants
Also a big thank you goes to the Unit Treasurer, Mr Brian Robertson, and his team for organising the event and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
