There a 4 runners up prizes of £250 who will also attend the London Lunch with their family, visit 10 Downing Street and go to South Africa. Preston Sea Cadets will celebrate its 90th Birthday in 2010. The Preston Unit of the Sea Cadets was officially recognised by the Admiralty in 1920 and since that time has played a leading part in the voluntary training of young people.
The arrival of the girls at the premises is lost in the mist of antiquity but in 1946 the existing Sea Ranger Crew became the Unit No. 45 of the Girls Nautical Training Corps (GNTC), which became the Girls Nautical Training Contingent before amalgamation with the Sea Cadets.
Preston Sea Cadets expanded further in 1968 when a Marine Cadet Detachment was formed. The Sea Cadets Marine Cadet Detachment will also celebrate its 42nd Birthday in 2010.

Congratulations go to a Petty Officer Cadet from Preston Sea Cadets who has made it to the top 40 cadet’s nominees in the country for the Duke of Westminster Award. He hopes to be on the short list for the top 15 cadets who will be selected early in the New Year. The Duke of Westminster Award is for an outstanding cadet who is on the BTEC Public Services Award Scheme. The first prize will be a cheque for £500 for the cadet to spend as he wishes; a lunch with his family and cadet supporters in a prestigious Club in London, a visit to 10 Downing Street and a trip of a lifetime - 3 weeks to South Africa. There a 4 runners up prizes of £250 who will also attend the London Lunch with their family, visit 10 Downing Street and go to South Africa. Shooting is a highly skilled Sport. It takes personal discipline and knowledge to be good at shooting. Before a Cadet can undertake any form of shooting they have to be drilled in Normal Safety Procedures (NSP's) and must have a full knowlege of the weapon including its cleaning and maintenance. The Cadets are taught the Principles of Marksmanship so they can attain the highest standards of accuracy. An excellent sport to have fun and attain high standards of discipline.

The National Field Assessment is held once a year to allow the Staff Royal Marine Officer to assess how a detachment lives and works under tactical conditions in the field.
This year was especially interesting as there was an Area Assessment to find candidates for the Gibraltar Cup (Best Detachment in the Country).
Our new tents added some comfort to the excersise and made the harbour area look very gucci.
The battle itself went well and gained us a final grading of "GOOD" the only better grading being a Very Good, so Bravo Zulu to the section for their efforts.
