This year we attended Brundall River Fest where we manned a stall, ran the car park and also put on a canoeing display for the public.

The event was well attended considering the bad weather and our canoeing display was very well received by the public, especially the getting wet part!!

The stall was a great success with us raising just over £300 for the unit. Thanks to all the cadets and parents who came along to support this event.

Jackie Cameron from the RNIB had contacted the unit to ask for help, the day was very successful raising in excess of £400. Jackie sent a letter of thanks following the event saying

Thank You Chapelfield

Norwich Sea Cadets have received a welcome boost with the news they have secured a new sponsorship deal with Chapelfield which will see them receiving a significant five figure sum over the next three years.
The money will be used to help with increasing running costs for the Sea Cadets who celebrate their centenary in 2012.
Currently there are 30 Cadets enrolled, between the ages of 10-18, who meet regularly on their ship, a former Swedish gun boat, moored on the river by Norwich Railway Station. It is the sixth vessel to be used by the cadets in its history and all have been berthed in what was originally known as the Port of Norwich.
“We are delighted with the news,” said Norwich Sea Cadet chairman, Irene Spinks. “Our everyday costs keep rising so the money is especially welcome. We will be joining with other Sea Cadet units from across East Anglia to have a special weekend exhibition at Chapelfield in September which will show people just exactly what we do.”
Chapelfield marketing manager, Sophie Hallett, said “The Sea Cadets do a valuable job in encouraging young people to take part in structured physical activity. Like Chapelfield they are also a true part of the local community so we are delighted to support them by making sure they have adequate funds to continue to carry on with their great work.”

Mrs Nash holds a Garage Sale in Mulbarton

Sunday 24th September saw the village of Mulbarton hold a garage sale and Mrs Nash, mother of OC Loz Burton held her own garage sale to raise funds for the unit. Many people had donated items to be sold throughout the day.

In total we raised over £60 in 4 hours, so thank you to Dawn for giving up her time to hold the garage sale for us! Its time for Dawn and Susie (our admin officer) to get their wellies on as they’re heading to a car boot next Sunday to hopefully sell some more of the items and raise much needed funds for the unit.

Thank you!

Mrs Westgate runs the Norwich Half Marathon

We would like to extend a massive Thank You to Mrs Westgate who ran the Norwich half marathon in aid of the unit in June this year. Her son OC Martin Westgate also took part in the fun run.

She raised in excess of £200 which will go towards the unit funds which will help us to subsidise events for the cadets. Thank you once again from all of the cadets and staff at TS Lord Nelson.

Car Boot Sale

An early morning on Sunday 2nd April saw the Chairman; Mrs Irene Spinks, Mr Chris Spinks, 4 cadets, AC Nikki Gaskin, AC David Mills, Cadet Madie Frary and Cadet Georgie Frary and I attend a car boot sale to raise funds for the Unit.

Everyone got into the selling spirit, encouraging customers in to the stall, with friendly banter as well as bargain prices. All cadets chose an item each which they aimed to sell by the end of the morning. One item, a particularly unattractive ladies handbag which we wanted to sell for only 10p was the hardest product to sell. It was only a couple of minutes before we packed away that a lady bought it. Returning a few minutes later to ask if we wanted it back, it was obvious she didn’t actually want it!

Luckily the weather remained dry all morning and we had a very successful car boot sale. Thank you to the four cadets who attended, more Divisional Points coming your way this month. Also a big thank you to Irene, our Chairman, and Chris for their help and support, as well as getting up very early on a Sunday. In total we raised £87.30 from the morning we spent at the car boot sale. Bravo Zulu!
