Unit Prize Giving 2007
An up and down year for the unit was ended at the final parade on 19 December 2007.
The unit held ceremonial divisions, with cadets attending in their best rig, and parents invited for Evening Colours. The opportunity was given to the Junior Cadets to show up their older shipmates by carrying out the ceremonial side of the evening, of which they did an excellent job.
After Evening Colours the units First Lieutenant, PO (SCC) Alan Duff, presented the annual awards, specialsiation awards and enrolled two new cadets fully into the unit.

Each of the above cadets were presented with a brass bosuns call.

Methil Sea Cadets Remember...
Cadets and staff from TS AJAX turned out in numbers to remember the fallen at the local remembrance parade at Methil.
The units colour was paraded behind a six man armed guard, followed by the remainder of the Ships Company.
Two Junior Sea Cadets, JSC Kelly Anderson and JSC Jacob Welch laid the unit wreath at the memorial.
The cadets then returned to the unit to warm up and stock up on some soup and sandwiches that were kindly made by the Units Management Committee.
The Colour Party and Guard, at the request of a local councilor also were lucky enough to lead the parade at the Cowdenbeath Service in the afternoon as well.
The cadets were all impeccably turned out and were a credit to the unit. Well Done all who attended.

Methil Represent Northern Area in London
Two cadets and a member of staff from Methil Sea Cadets represented Northern Area at the National Trafalgar Parade held in London.
AC Paul Reid and CDT Cheyanne Liston were part of Northern Areas unarmed platoon and where the first platoon to march onto Trafalgar Square.
PO Alan Duff also attended training the 48 man armed guard and acting as a PO Guide on the day.
The three took part in intensive training on the landing ship RFA LARGS BAY as it travelled from Portsmouth to London over three days.
The three represented the unit well and thoroughly enjoyed this once in a lifetime opportunity to parade in the heart of London.

District Swimming Regatta
Nine cadets from Methil Unit attended Fife and Tayside Swimming Gala at HMS CALEDONIA this Sunday, 23 September 2007.
All cadets showed excellent effort and all were rewarded with a medal! The following cadets one their heats and go on to represent the unit and district at area level next Sunday:

CO-OP Bag Packing
Cadets, staff and UMC were again out in force for the second Saturday in row, bag packing to raise money for the unit.
The cadets put in a good shift at the CO-OP supermarket in Leven raising £181.69!
A huge well done to everyone involved!

Bag Packing at Iceland
Well done to all cadets, staff and committee who attended bag packing at Iceland on Leven High Street on 15 September 2007.
They raised the grand total of £160.64

National Trafalgar and HMS Diamond Launch Selection Weekend
Five cadets from TS AJAX, AC Paul Reid, OC David Aitken, OC Lee George, Cdt Shaun Anderson and Cdt Cheyanne Liston, all attended the above training at HMS CALEDONIA on 7-9 September 2007.
They took part in a variety of parade training including use of SA80s using the new L98 drill.
After some intense training both AC Paul Reid and Cdt Cheyanne Liston have been selected to represent both the unit and the area at National Trafalgar in London on 21 October 2007 and the launch of the Royal Navy's new Type 45 Destroyer HMS DIAMOND.
The unit wishes them both well at these high profile events.

Kayaking with the ATC
Sunday 26 August 2007 so the last outing, this year, for the ATC.
1370 (Leven) Squadron ATC have been working closely with the unit this year, giving them an opportunity to use our facilities and vice versa.
The air cadets attended Methil Unit every third Sunday for kayaking with our own cadets, culminating in all of them gaining a qualification.
This cooperation has allowed friendship to be made with both cadets and staff in a way that both organisation can move forward and offer more variety to their cadets training.
Plans are already afoot for Cook/Steward training in the new year culminating with a formal Cheese and Wine Party.

Kayaking and Canoe Weekend with Musselburgh SCC
The weekend 27-29 July 2007 so a residential weekend being held at the unit with cadets from Methil and Musselburgh units.
The weekend allowed the cadets maximum time on the water as well as an opportunity to stay at the units excellent accommodation facilities.
The cadets not only got to use the units extensive fleet of kayaks, but also a Canadian canoe, kindly loaned by Lochore Meadows for the weekend.
The weekend culminated by with a number of cadets from both units gaining their BCU One Star Kayaking qualification.

Five Methil Cadets Onboard TS ROYALIST
Five of the units cadets were lucky enough to have the opportunity to sail on the Sea Cadets brig TS ROYALIST (pictured) on the 7 July 2007 to 13 July 2007.
This was made possible by kind donations by the Leven Rotary Club and Mr Jackson, a local business man.
The five cadets, LC Ben Stanley, AC Paul Reid, OC Murray Hall, Cadet Aitken and Cadet George took part in the voyage from Largs to Glasgow taking in all the sights along the way.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the cadets, getting to sail and actual tall ship. It allowed them to learn and develop their team working and leadership skills, as well as making some friends for life.
All five cadets had an excellent time and are already looking for funding to go again next year.

United States Naval Cadets Visit TS AJAX
A contingent of American cadets over in Scotland on an exchange, visited the unit on Monday 2 July 2007.
The ten cadets and two members of staff were originally going to take part in some kayaking with the cadets and staff. This however was not possible to due to the weather conditions.
Instead the cadets took part and in a 5-a-side and deck hockey tournament with their Scottish counterparts. This was a great success and allowed the staff to chat in the units wardroom.
The evening culminated with an exhange of plaques between the US Exchange Officer and Methil and Districts Officer in Charge CPO (SCC) Gordon Squires (pictured).

Big Congratulations!
Congratulations to Able Cadet Stanley for passing his leading cadet board.
Ben spent a week at SCTC Caledonia being assessed on leadership, teamwork, sea cadet knowledge and instructing.
Ben will now accept mor responisibility around the unit, now he has reached the second top rung of the sea cadet ladder.

Bring on the BTEC!
Two of the units cadets, AC Stanley and OC Forgan have started towards their BTEC Public Services which is offered through the Cadet Vocational Qualification Organisation.
The unit offers an excellent opportunity with the BTEC, which is an excellent transferable qualification. By pushing themselves and carrying out unit activities they will gain this valuable assest which is the equivalent to four scottish standard grades, grade 1-3.
This qualifcation is open to any cadets 16 years and over.

Caledonia Fair 2006
AC Ben Stanley took part in this years Caledonia Fair at HMS Caledonia on 2nd July 2006.
Ben was part of the joint silent drill display with the Sea Cadets, Air Cadets and the Marine Cadets.
Although the heavens opened the cadet drill display went without a hitch and much praise was recieved from the base commander and the Area Officer, Cdr Batholemew RN.

Lower Methil Gala
On Sunday 2nd July, Methil & District Sea Cadets led the procession for Lower Methil Gala. The gala banner, and the Unit Colour were paraded by PO Watson and PO Ralph.
Fortunately the rain stayed away long enough for the parade and some of the entertainment. A fun day was had by all!

Ceilidh
A fundraising ceilidh was orgainsed by two parents, Mrs Coleman and Mrs Walton in June to raise money to purchase new canoes and to get the roof repaired. The night was a great success and with the help of the local businesses, just over £2000 was raised.

Kirkcaldy Fire Station Visit
May brought the opportunity for five of our cadets to visit Kirkcaldy Fire Station.
After being shown around the station and the fire appliances, the cadets were given the chance to use the fire hose and soak the staff!
We would like to thank all of White Watch for a fantastic time!

Northern Area Champs!
A colour party made up of cadets from across the district including two from Methil took part in this years Drill Competition at HMS Caledonia after being trained by PO Duff.
LC Jordanna Lo and AC Ben Stanley of Methil were joined by POC Jamie Ritchie, AC Dean Lynch (both of Dundee Unit) and OC Shaun Duncan of Perth.
In a tightly contested competition the team proved victorious and went through to represent the Area at the National Competition held at HMS Raleigh.
