Duck Race 2010
The 2010 Duck race was officially launched at Carmarthens Riverside Festival on the weekend of the 19th/20th June 2010.
13 ducks took to the river after spectacularly being dropped from a 40ft bridge at Carmarthen. The ducks took 30 minutes to complete their long journey watched keenly by a crowd.
Some had to be helped along by the Gwendraeth Valley Paddlers as they got themselves stuck in the muddy banks on the river!
This was the advertising race for the big event on the 22nd August 2010 at Llanelli. In this race the Carmarthenshire County Council duck came first, beating stiff competetion from the likes of the Battlefield live duck, and Cancer research Wales, amongst many other ducks.
The event was topped off with the Renault Twingo being offered as a prize, which drew in many crowds.
The Cadets also provided a cruical role at the event, patrolling the river in the new RIB, providing safety cover all day.

A big thank you to the Llanelli Star/Evening Post!
Llanelli Sea Cadets are receiving great publicity thanks to the Llanelli Star office who continue to show great support.
So far the paper has released regular stories and assisted with publicity for events and fundraisers.
Petty Officer Paul Jenkins is the PR officer for the unit and has said the following:
"Llanelli Star reporters have been great and supported us thoroughly, regularly publishing stories. It's great to know that even "good news" stories get published. We regularly receive emails and phonecalls thanks to these stories and have recruited cadets and staff, and even had private donations of funds and equipment thanks to them"

Weymouth Training Weekend
On the 23rd April 19 members of T.S.Echo left Llanelli to join Neath for a weekend training at STCT Weymouth.
The two units arrived at Weymouth late on Friday night and got some rest ready for the Saturdays day of Sailing and Power-boating.
A busy day in glorious conditions on the Saturday saw the two units make use of 5 of the power boats and around 20 sailing boats.
The evenings were spend with the cadets in the sports hall or up in the new cadet lounge, which includes a nintendo WII, large TV, PC and internet suite and various other games.
On Sunday we completed our training throughout the morning and after enjoying good food we headed back in the afternoon.
Brilliant weekend, we recommend Weymouth to every unit! Thank you Neath for a great weekend.

Excellent work which will assist us with some of the current bills. Well done all. Relax and enjoy in Weymouth on the 23rd - 25th for all the hard work!

Donation Increase
Donation increase
The committee at T.S.Echo regrettably announce that the Donations/Subs that cadets pay per month has now gone up from £5 to £7.50.
This has been a very difficult decision, and one that was not taken lightly. After reviewing the charges of other clubs in the area and investigating that the national average is well above £10, the committee decided to go half way and meet at £7.50. Some local clubs charge £20 per month, and meet once, where we are meeting twice per month for £7.50, something I am sure you will agree is a reasonable charge.
This decision has been forced upon us in order to survive and continue to offer the training that we provide on a weekly basis at such a high standard. All costs, including insurance and Gas/electric have risen over the past 5 years, where the price has remained fixed at £5 until now.
Cadets have definately noticed the increase in fundraising activities and in order to assist in releasing the burden on them we have had to take these steps.

10/03/10 - Visit to Mayors Parlour
On Tuesday (09/03/10) the Llanelli Unit accepted an invite to the newly refurbished Mayors Parlour in Llanelli.
The Mayor Cllr J Jenkins paid tribute to the Llanelli Sea Cadets and staff, thanking them all for their commitment and hard work, especially at remembrance day parades and various activities that we carry out. The Mayor said the town would not be the same without the work that groups and organisations like the cadets do.
PPO (SCC) L Jenkins and Lt (SCC) P Killick RNR both thanked the Mayor and his consort/staff for all their help over the years and for their invite to the event.
All the Cadets and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned a lot from this evening.
The new Mayors Parlour is a wonderful sight and is very well decorated, we were all pleased to see our Crest on the Wall along with our affiliated ship Trenchant.

Swim the Channel!
The Cadets and Junior Section of T.S.ECHO invited their shipmates from Port Talbot - T.S.Resource down to Llanelli Leisure Centre on the 31st January 2010 to attempt to complete a swim the channel event.
The groups assembled at 12:00 and started their first lengths shortly afterwards. Well before their target of 15:00 the Cadets and some staff had completed a total of 1404 lengths and completed the challenge.
The cadets had earned some playtime and the staff at the leisure centre set up an inflatable assault course, where the cadets, and staff all enjoyed attempting (mostly failing) the course!
The Llanelli group has raised over £300* for the unit from this event.
*Note: Estimated total as funds still coming in at time of Web Update.
