The Llanelli Unit was founded in 1942 during warship week. T.S.Echo is also affiliated with the Naval Submarine HMS Trenchant. The town of Llanelli got together and raised enough funds during the warship week to pay for HMS Echo to continue its war efforts. Hence the reason that Llanelli is called T.S. Echo.
HMS Echo was eventually decommissioned, and we unfortunately lost our ties to the ship due to this, by the time it was rebuilt we had formed a bond with HMS Trenchant, which we are very proud of. There are very few Sea Cadet units that get to visit a Submarine. Llanelli Unit has moved a few occasions throughout its colourful history, currently it is based on Embankment Road in Morfa, Llanelli. Previously it was situated where the Air Cadets currently are based, near the Selwyn Samuel Centre.
The unit has been in Embankment road for around 15 years, and is in the Old Dock Hotel. This offers us a large building with 4 dedicated training classrooms, a further 2 training areas, a galley(kitchen), male and female heads (toilets), as well as staff heads. Two offices and a staff room. Stores area and large grounds to store our boating equipment.
We have fortunately been donated a large portakabin by Parker Bros Hire at Llanelli. This offers us a dedicated facility to train communications.
As stated above we are linked with our affiliated ship, HMS Trenchant.
