REMEMBERENCE DAY
Kettering Sea Cadets & Marine Cadets took part in the annual Rememberence Day Parade held in St Peters & St Pauls Church on Sunday the 9th of November.

LORD MAYORS SHOW
On Saturday the 8th of November Kettering Sea Cadets Band took part in the Lord Mayors show in London.
The Lord Mayor’s procession winds through nearly 800 years of London’s history, marching unscathed through everything from the black death to the blitz. In the 17th century it was inconvenienced by the building site that would later become St Paul’s Cathedral. In the twentieth it was the first event ever to be broadcast live on television. In the 21st, it’s a day out for half a million people, with millions more watching on the BBC.

PETTY OFFICER CADET
For the first time in over ten years Kettering Sea Cadets has a Petty Officer Cadet.
POC Debra Stacey attended a week long advancement course at the Sea Cadet Training Centre based at HMS Raleigh, Through hard work and a lot of late nights working on her presentation skills and uniform she managed to pass with flying colours.

2008 BURGEE
This year through the hard efforts of the staff and the cadets the unit for the first time since 1956 has been awarded a Burgee for efficiency - the highest award possible.

BOATING WEEKEND
The staff and cadets enjoyed a weekend of Boating at the Eastern Area Boating station over the weekend of the 27th to the 30th September.

Operation Market Garden
Kettering Sea Cadets support Operation Market Garden
The weekend of 13th & 14th September 2008 at Spanhoe Airfield will consist of a trip back to the 1940's to experience the sights and sounds of that era.
The event will include World War II aircraft* (static and air displays), Arnhem battle reenactment, military vehicles, civilian vehicles, living history displays including British-American-Polish-Dutch-German & civilian, vintage tractors & agricultural working exhibits, steam engines, live music and entertainment, big band dance** (Saturday night) and a memorial service (Sunday morning).

RUSHDEN PARTY IN THE PARK
Kettering Sea Cadet Band perfomed for the second year running at the Rushden Town party in the park.
Along with the Band the Unit's PT Display Team lead by PO(PT)Jan Smith also performed a this years event.

Indefatigable Cup & Award to Sea Cadet Corps Unit: TS Pytchley
Col. William O’Leary Chairman of the ‘Indefatigable Old Boys Association’ is presenting the Indefatigable Trophy. The Trophy is awarded by the Indefatigable Old Boys Association to the Sea Cadet Unit that has made the most significant improvement in the previous year. Presented in 2008 by the Indefatigable Old Boys Association, the TS Indefatigable Cup is awarded annually, along with a monetary award, to the Sea Cadet Unit in the UK, deemed by the Sea Cadet Corps Headquarters in London, to have made the most significant improvement over the preceding twelve months. The Cup, formally known as the ‘Navy League Challenge Swimming Trophy’, is a large silver cup, with an enamelled portrait of Lord Horatio Nelson. The Cup was competed for an annual boat race on the Mersey between The Indefatigable and the Lancashire and National Sea Training Home. It was won and given to Indefatigable in 1938, by the Navy League. Receiving the Trophy is Sub Lieutenant (SCC) Sean Smith RNR who is the Commanding Officer of T.S. Pytchley Kettering Sea cadets. He said, “The unit goes from strength to strength and the cadets are getting more than ever from the number of activities and the quality of training on offer. I have a dedicated team of Officers and NCO’s who work hard to provide quality training and activities for the cadets to get involved in”. Kettering Sea Cadet Band
Kettering Sea Cadet Band Win Novice Class and Best Drum Major at the 2007 Band Contest held at the East of England Show.
The Unit Band won its class at the recent area contest held at the East of England show on Sunday. Chief Petty Officer Pether the unit Bandmaster was extremely proud of the band that has come a long way since its formation in February 2007. He said, “The efforts of all members of the band are key to continued success. It is important to note that the members of the band practice in their own time in addition to the normal cadet training”. The band was helped to its winning place by the Drum Major L/Cpl James Dexter who was awarded the prize for being the best Drum Major of the contest. The band was also thankful for some key stick work buy it’s solo drummer L/Junior Palmer who at 11 was the youngest solo drummer in the contest.

Kettering Sea Cadet Band
The Cadets and Staff from Kettering Sea Cadet Band took part in the Northampton Show.
Up until five years ago the Town Show had been a Northampton institution for over 75 years. And on the Bank Holiday weekend of May 24th and 25th the returned at its new venue of Franklin’s Gardens.

Supportning the 'Poppey Appeal'
The Unit raised over £1200 for the poppy apeal winning the trophy for the most money raised. Junior First Class E Palmer and MC2 P Gallusso (pictured) raised the most (£179) well done to all invloved.

The Unit Band
The unit band under the musical direction of CPO (SCC) Marc Pether performed for the first time at Rushden Carnival. The band performed to a high standard despite nerves and it has to be said they impressed all who attended

Boating at Waymouth
CPO (SCC) Marc Pether organised a trip to Weymouth boat station and along with other members of staff and excited cadets they spent the weekend gaining much needed boating skills that lead to a number of RYA qualifications

Trafalgar Day
The band lead the District Trafalgar day parade held this year in Hinckley. The band led by CPO (C) (SCC) Marc Pether played their new repertoire of music. Chief Pether said, the band did the unit proud and continue to go from strength to strength
POPT (SCC) Jan Smith and Sub Lieutenant (SCC) ‘Smudge’ Smith RNR took part in the national parade in London. They were involved in training the National Physical Training display team. Sub Lieutenant (SCC) ‘Smudge’ Smith RNR led the team on the march past.

Top Score for Marine Cadets at the annual Assesment
The SRMO or ‘Staff Royal Marine Officer’ is a serving Royal Marine and is posted to Sea Cadet HQ. His job is to make sure all standards and training requirements are being met by each unit detachment. The inspection that involves field craft and ‘section Attacks’ is a physically and mentally demanding test of each cadet. The Kettering detachment scored 2nd highest in the area and the unit OIC S/LT (SCC) S E Smith RNR was justly proud of the detachment.
