Sea Cadets

Kettering

New Commanding officer.

Sub-Lt Perther taking control

Monday 28th of June 2010 was a momentous event for Kettering Cadets. This was when A/Lt (SCC) Smith RMR handed over control of the unit to S/Lt (SCC) Pether RNR. A/Lt Smith has taken up the challenge to help start the new Marine Detachment at TS Laforay in Northampton. This has allowed Marc Pether who has been a driving force in Kettering as the Executive Officer for the unit to progress further in becoming the commanding officer.

The handing over was marked as a special night where every one had a chance to say their thank you and well wishes to Sean smith as he transfers over to the Marines and to welcome in Marc as the New C.O. We wish them both all the best in their new roles.

T.S. Pytchley

T.S. Pytchley is a unit on the up and we are now actively recruiting young people to join our ranks.

If you are between 10 and 12 years old, you will able to join the junior section. The Junior cadets Parade on Thursday evenings between 1915 and 2130 and as you would expect uniform and cadet discipline is still part of the Junior cadet life, but a big part of being a Junior is Learning through fun activity. Once you turn 12, you will be able to join the sea cadets and when you turn 13 and, if you show a desire, you can join the Marine Cadet Detachment.

At 12 or older, you will be able to join the Sea Cadets. The Sea Cadets use themes of the Royal Navy and there are many activities available to you locally, at one of the National training centres or at sea on one of the Sea cadets off shore training vessels. You will be expected to conform to sea cadet regulations and wear the uniform. It is not all-serious stuff though, fun is a big part of how we train and it is fair to say that we encourage you to enjoy your time with us.

The other option available to you is the specialist training offered by the Marine Cadets. The Marine Cadet detachment is very much part of the unit and part of the Sea Cadet Corps. However, as you would expect the training is geared toward the Royal Marines. All the activities available to Sea Cadets are available in the most part, to Marine Cadets. If you are interested, you will need to be 13 years of age to join.

All the sections of the Sea cadets are open to boys and girls, so if you are interested and want to find out more, why not come and visit the unit at the address below, there is no commitment to stay! We meet on Monday and Thursday evenings between 1915 and 2130.

Cadet 150 Parade in Northampton

On Sunday the 9th May Kettering Sea cadet band joined in the celebrations along side the Air and Army cadets to commemorated the 150 years celebrations for the Army cadets.
During this Parade S/Lt (SCC) Pether RNR was also presented with his Cadet Long Service Medal by the Lord Lieutenant for our Northamptonshire Lady Juliet Townsend LVO. (She was accompanied by the Lord lieutenant cadet Sgt Watson also from our Kettering Marine Detachment.)
