Saturday Sumo Success!

On Sat 13th March 2010, Hastings Cadets showed who was best in an Active Hastings Sumo Assault course competition, where competitors had to complete an assault course dressed in a rather large sumo suit. 3 cadets and 2 members of staff were in attendance and after a rather disappointing turn out on the part of the other organisations involved, the team event turned into an individual event where the 5 in attendance battled it out for victory.

The winner of the day was Able Cadet Theodore Harrison.

BZ to all involved.

Southern Area Drill 2010

On 7th March 2010 Hastings Cadets took part in the annual Southern Area Drill & Piping competition at HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, where they competed against Sea Cadets from across the South of England for the position of the smartest squad both in terms of dress and drill.

The Hastings team was led by Leading Cadet Hannah Gibson whom came 3rd in the Squad Commander Competition, the squad achieved 5th place which was a great result for such a young squad.

The cadets' pride in themselves can be measured by their immaculate uniforms and their 2nd place.

A big thank you to all staff, parents and cadets who attended the event, as well as the preparation work before the competition.

Hastings Cadet celebrates launch of Cadet 150 with a Royal Audience!!

POC Paul Huggett aged 17, joined six other Sea Cadets to meet Her Majesty The Queen today, Wednesday 17 February 2010.

The youngsters were part of 26 cadets drawn from across all of the Cadet Forces who were lucky enough to secure a Royal audience with Her Majesty in recognition of the great work they have all achieved as young cadets. The cadets are also in town to celebrate the launch of Cadet 150, a national theme which hopes to capture the public’s attention and focus it on celebrating 150 years of the cadet movement in Britain and inspire others to get involved with their local Cadet force.

As part of the celebrations all the cadets met Kevan Jones, under secretary of state and minister for Veterans and Dawn Butler, minister for young citizens and youth engagement M P for Brent South, outside 10 Downing Street for a quick photo before being whisked off for a tour of London . Cadet 150 is an opportunity to recognise the role young people play in supporting their local communities and how the cadet forces: Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, Air Cadets and Combined Cadet Force help support young people into adult hood by giving them the chance to learn new skills and boost their confidence via team work.

During 2010 a host of special events will take place to mark the 150th anniversary of the cadet movement. Founded in 1860, the cadet movement is one of the oldest and most successful voluntary youth organisations in the world. A force to be reckoned with, today it numbers 131,000 young people led by 25,000 adult volunteers in 3,000 sites across the country.

Commander Andy Giles Royal Navy - Area Officer Southern commented:

“We are delighted to be celebrating 150 years of this fantastic youth movement, which has such close associations with the Royal Navy. The uniformed cadet forces offer such great opportunities for thousands of young people across the UK . We are encouraging people to find out more through Cadet150 – come along and Live the Adventure!”

Area Football Success!

The weekend 16/17th Jan 2010 made for a successful weekend for the unit 5-A-Side football teams at the Southern Area Competition at HMS Sultan, Gosport. This is where people from as North as Milton Keynes, as East as Kent and as west as Bournmouth play to decide who should represent the Southern Area at the National Competition to see who is the best in the country.

Saturday hosted the Junior Competition where the Junior boys made stunning progress and did not loose a match, through to the Semi Finals they tried hard to fend off a hard West Kent side but lost by a small margin. Not disheartened the boys went on to beat ____ in the play offs and attain a stunning third place.

Sunday hosted the Senior Competition and our Senior Boys made a gallent effort to do as well as possible, however falling at the first hurdle and losing their first match, but despite the winning of every other game to try for the finals, they were denied entry based on goal difference.

Both teams demonstrated teamwork, communication and excellent footballing skills which regardless of where they positioned meant they were a credit to the Unit and Sussex District.

Well Done to All!

Navy Board Cadet 2010!

Leading Cadet Lesotho!

Leading Cadet Hannah Gibson has passed a rigorous selection process and has been selected as one of TWELVE in the whole Country and Sea Cadet Corps.

Her task is to complete some adventurous exploration tasks as well as provide aid and a helping hand to disadvantaged children on the African Continent in Lesotho. The Expedition has been organised in conjunction with the Cadet 150 Celebrations (Celebrating 150 years since the beginning of the Cadet Force Movement) and she needs your support.
Hannah has to contribute a high percentage of her cost of going and therefore needs to raise money in order to be able to go, attempts to raise some funds have been successful and approximately £200 of about £600 needed has been raised but there is still 2/3 of the money to find.

To help Hannah help others please contact the webmaster (webmaster@tshastings.co.uk).

District Pulling Success!

On Sunday 7th June, 17 cadets from TS Hastings SCC set out against the inclement weather and overcame the odds which were against them. The Senior Boys team dominated both their races and had been putting distance between them and the competitors along the entire course. Having won their first race by a considerable margin the Senior Girls team was altered to allow two novice's the chance to take part in the days events. Whilst this enabled the competing team to win this heat, lessons were learnt and experience was gained by the novices, both of which enjoyed the day. The girls team was returned to the winning combination of members and whist the gap had narrowed over the first heat they pulled to victory. Our Junior boys team had never pulled together before and also contained two novice pullers. Whilst they lost both heats, on the second run they had narrowed the winners lead by a huge amount proving to all that they had
learnt how to work effectively as a team.

Whilst the Senior teams have proved that experience counts on the water, the Junior team demonstrated that it also requires teamwork by every member of the crew. I believe that we have a winning Junior team in the making for next years event.

We are sailing!

Hastings SCC is proud to announce that it is once again Sailing/Pulling and Kayaking off the beach, see the photo album for pictures.....

A Big thank you to all the staff behind the organisation of such a great training opportunity for the cadets!
