Last week four cadets went to the Welsh Harp in north London for the week. Between them they returned with RYA Sailing qualifications ranging from Stage 1 to Stage 4.
They all said that the week was fun and that they really enjoyed it. Well done to ACs McGlone and Manning, OC Watson and Cdt Gumble. Hope this is the start of good sailing in the future.

Waterborne Fun Day

On Saturday 24th July we once again went to RVDS for another fun day. Nine cadets, staff and supporters enjoyed another warm sunny and enjoyable day. This time we played football in the smaller boats. Photo shows CI Molloy and cadets Carr and Chan trying to find the football! It was a special day for us, as well. Cadet Molloy joined us for the first time in a while. It was great to see him and the cadets were really pleased he was there with them.

on Saturday 10th July, eight cadets and staff travelled to RVDS for the first of this years fun day. The weather was fantastic. They took part in four activities during the day Raft building, kayaking, wobble boarding and powerboating. It involved them all getting very wet, but they all really enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the next one. A special mention to our Padre, Mike Jezzard, who joined in the activities along with the cadets. I think he may have had a better time than they did!

North Weald Bus Rally

On Sunday 4th July, four cadets, staff and committee spent a glorius day at the annual Bus Rally. We were there mainly for First Aid cover of the event. Fortunately, we only had to deal with one incident, but nothing too serious. It was a hot, but very long day for everyone. The cadets had the chance to have a look round, and tey also went to Ongar on one of the old buses. Thank you to everyone who attended.

Armed Forces Day.

On Sunday 27th June six cadets and five staff travelled to Brentwood for the annual armed forces day. We were joined by cadets from Brentwood, Basildon and Clacton to march through Brentwood High Street as part of the celebrations. Race for Life

On Sunday 9th May everyone got out of bed extra early to help run the water station at this years Race for Life. It was a very long day but a good profile raising exercise. Thank you to everyone who made the effort to attend.

Sea Cadet Pennant

Well what can be said. This year following on from our inspection by Commander Haines in March, Harlow has been awarded the pennant this year.It has been 5 years since we last achieved this and it is an indication of how well things have been improved on in the last year. This shows that Harlow Sea Cadets are on the up and that things can only get better. A massive Well Done! to everyone in the unit. Cadets, staff, committee and parents should be rightly pleased with themselves.

Annual Awards Presentation

We were joined by the chairwoman of Harlow council on Thursday evening for our annual awards presentation. This is the time of year that all their hard work and efforts are recognised.Cadets, parents, friends and family had a relaxed evening. Awards were given to the cadets for many achievements throughout the past year. They have all worked really hard in the last twelve months and this was their opportunity to show off.Well done to all the cadets, and also a thank you to the staff and committee for their continued support.

However, the cadets returnrd with qualifications in First Aid, Seamanship, Communications, Campcraft and Leadership skills. A special mention to the two cadets who slept in tents overnight where the temperature was minus 7. We were lucky this year to have the use of the sergent's mess in the evening. The cadets could stay warm and socialize with friends from around the Essex District. Well done to you all.

On the same day as the seniors competed, five junior cadets from our unit went up against other District teams in Open Drill. JSFC M.Chan was guard commander, and did a fantastic job. On her Birthday too! After only a few weeks practice and some intensive training, they did a great job, finishing 4th in the junior section. It was very daunting for them in what was for all of them their first competition. They all turned out looking very smart. Well done to them all.

Drill and Guard Competition

On Sunday 22nd November we took eight senior cadets to the District Drill and Guard competition at James Hornsby School in Basildon. This is one of the most difficult competitions of the year. Congratulations to all cadets who have taken place in any competition this year and earned points.

Remembrance Day Parade

On Sunday 8th of November the entire ships company mustered for the annual Remembrance Parade. They all turned out in their best uniforms and marched to the local cenotaph for the service. Despite cold and damp conditions, they all presented themselves with pride and dignity. Special mention to O/C Lee Rogers for carrying the unit's colours for the first time this year, he did a great job.The service had special meaning this year, with so many of our young service men and women fighting a very current conflict in Afghanistan. Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this difficult time. Lastly a big well done and Thank You to all the cadets.

There was a barbecue and refreshments at lunch, and an opportunity to meet some old and new friends from around Eseex district.

St Clares Hospice

On Saturday 19th July several cadets and staff helped with the setting up of the annual fete. The weather was very unkind to us with downpours throughout the day. However, all the cadets were most helpful, which was commented on by the stall holders and the staff. The cadets boiled kettles, erected gazebos, transported tables and chairs and any others job needed. They were a credit to Halow sea cadets and a big THANK YOU to them all.
