District Regatta
The unit Entered the district regatta held at SABS on Saturday 31st may, we entered the
Power Boat Handling Competition on which the crew came runners up by half a point (we were robbed), the crew did the unit proud in there perfomance, dress and standards of displacement boat driving, in which the coxon of the boat did a fantastic job and the crew did equally well.
Dinghy Sailing
We entered two classes of sailing, the Pico Class and Topper class, the Unit won the Pico class and also the topper class. the whole sailing team again did a fantastic job in the 3 races which were held

General Unit Update

General Update Sheet
• There will be a boating day on Sunday 25th May for those selected for the district regatta. Times 10:30 to 16:30, Bring a T1, Lunch and Hot Drink.
• The District Regatta is to take place over the weekend of 31st May and 1st June. More details will be issued soon.
• We are doing a sponsored Sail, Pull and Paddle to Fareham Town Quay over the weekend of 6th to 8th June in order to raise funds for both the new rescue boat and a new fleet of kayaks – please help support us in raising funds. Course joining instructions will go out next week.
• District Canoeing competition is Sunday 15th June – Details out soon.
• There is an Expedition course in the New Forest over the weekend of 20th to 22nd June. Please see the Training Officer for more details.
• District Camp 20th to 25th July at Jersey Camp IOW – Details out soon.
• If you haven’t passed your email address to the Admin Officer (Mr Alan Magrath), could you please – this will enable us to keep the costs down and send out more information regarding camps / courses etc.
• A letter will be coming out shortly regarding Data Protection Act for Project Westminster (The Cadet forces database) and a new standing order mandate form – watch this space !

Area Guard Competition 2008
After the competition was snowed off on the 6th April it was rescheduled for the following weekend and this time it rained. The Guard did the unit proud with a fantastic display of armed drill they pulled it out of the bag on the day but the competition was won by Kent District. Unit Boating Week April 2008
During the Week of 6th - 11th of April Half term the unit Held a boating week, all the cadets who attend the course managed to achieve a variety of qualifications in sailing and power boating. to see more pictures of the boating week take a look at the flicker & Photo bucket pages which can be found on our Picture gallery page.

Area Guard Competition 2008 Snowed Off
On Sunday the 6th of April the Unit Guard was due to take part in the Area Guard Competition, but due to unforeseen circumstances and the weatherman getting it right. It snowed and laid for the first time in years so the competition was postponed after we arrived at Whale Island, we did suggest that the unit who could build the biggest snowman should win, but we were not allowed to do it.

Unit Wins a Burgee for 2007
During the Awards night the Commanding officer receives a burgee on behalf of the ships company from Captain Watts and unit Chairman Mike Drapper.

Unit Awards Night
The annual awards night took place on Friday 4th April 2008, The VIP for the ceremony was the Captain of the Royal Navy School Of Marine Engineering, Captain G M Watts Royal Navy, also attending was the Lord Mayor of Gosport and Lady Fieldhouse and many others.
There were many awards presented during the night to the deserving recipients the winners can be seen in the photo and also more photos can be found on the picture gallery page.

Visit to HMS Puncher
4 cadets from our unit vistit HMS Puncher, the cadets then spent the day at sea with the crew.

The Winning Guard at the District Competition 2008
On Sunday the unit entered the District Guard competition, A lot of effort has been put in by all who entered and the effort has paid off, the armed guard won the competition and are now through to the Area Competition.

Our unit also entered an unarmed Guard at the district competition; a massive effort was made by all the cadets that entered.

New Years Day Dip 2008
The unit is currently raising money to purchase a new rib and one of the ways in which funds have been raised is by doing the New Year Day Dip in the Solent, What a Team effort our units finest just before they entered the water on that cold day.

The New years day DIP has helped raise money for the units new RIB.

Steam Pinnace
Our cadets get many opportunities to go on boat trips and one of the more memorable occasions was when they were invited to go on the Steam Pinnace which was built in 1911 for the Royal Navy. The cadets had the opportunity to steer the vessel as well as carrying out the very important boat hook drills.
