WE NEED YOUR HELP!

SPONSORSHIP & FUNDRAISING
TS Gloucester Sea Cadets is a registered charity (number 1043153), with little or no financial aid from the Ministry of Defence. We are therefore, almost entirely self-supporting by fundraising.

Unlike the Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps, The Sea Cadet Corps is not funded by the Government. We have to raise our own funds to keep our buildings and equipment in good working order.

This means that the Unit is active in the community, in Gloucestershire, helping others and trying to raise awareness of its charitable status.

To be quite frank, we need money to keep our boats on the water, to keep our building in good repair and to provide good training for our youngsters so that they grow up with a sense of responsibility, duty and discipline.

Money raised is spent entirely on the Cadets; we don't spend it on the staff. It all goes into giving the Cadets what they want - SERIOUS FUN and training.

THE UNIT MANAGEMENT TEAM
The financial side of things is handled by our Unit Management Team (UMT). The UMT is made up of parents and friends who are willing take on the role of active supporters.

UMT members can be asked to help in any way they can. Some are fundraisers, some help in the galley, others have been seen with a paintbrush in their hands. Everyone has something to contribute, no matter how small. However, not everyone wants to join the UMT (or has to!). There are many ways people in Gloucestershire can help us.

THE BUSINESS COMMUNITY

Are you a local business person? Did you ever serve in the Royal Navy or Sea Cadets? Are you a keen yachtsman or dinghy sailor? Do you agree with the aims of your local Sea Cadet Unit?

If so, then why not sponsor the Unit?

We would welcome a regular monthly donation so that we can keep the Unit running on an even keel.

Please write to me at the address below if you would consider setting up a standing order or sending a one-off donation.

YOUR SUPPORT AND HELP
There are many other ways in which you can help our cause,

You can encourage recruitment,

Offer your own services (WE NEED BOTH!) - if you are willing, training is available to adults as instructors as well as children as cadets. As with the Cadets, Training and involvement can be SERIOUS FUN.

Alternatively, there is always room for one more on the "UMT" and we have extensive facilities to maintain as well as a varied training program of opportunities to offer to our cadets.

Finally, the P.S.A. is always looking for assistance supplying logistics support to the cadets and fund raising to help us along.

Frequently asked questions

Who can join?
Anyone, boy or girl, aged between 12 and 18. Younger boys and girls join the Junior Sea Cadets from age 10

Do you have to join the Royal Navy or Royal Marines when you leave?
Not at all. The Sea Cadets are not a pre-service organisation, but if you do want to join one of the sea services, the Sea Cadet Corps will support you.

What do you do?
What don't we do! Not only do we do waterborne activities such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, rowing, power boating, etc., we shoot, swim, hike, camp and fly, as well as visiting Royal Naval ships and bases, and doing specialist courses in seamanship, communications, engineering, physical training, and so on. As long as the insurance covers it, there is nothing we can't do we don’t even limit ourselves to helicopter flights and beyond!

Do I wear a uniform?
Yes. The Sea Cadets are proud to wear a uniform which is almost identical to the Royal Navy. Cadets are issued with two uniforms, a working rig and a best rig.

Who is in charge?
Each unit is under the command of a Commanding Officer, who is assisted by a team of officers, senior rates and instructors. Any staff instructing an activity are fully trained and qualified to do so. All staff must be approved by the Commanding Officer before they are permitted to teach cadets. For more information about joining a unit as adult staff, please contact your local unit.

How much does it cost?
T.S Gloucester charges subs of £11 per month for cadets and £6.50 per month for Junior cadets attending 1 parade night per week which goes towards upkeep of unit. Junior cadets may attend 2 in which case the full fee of £11 per month will be levied.

When a cadet is issued their uniform, a one of payment of £25 is made to go toward the cost of the uniform upkeep, this include, badges through out their cadet career, cleaning and replacement uniforms as they grow. This does not include parade boots as these are not supplied to us from MOD stores.

The only other things which cost are courses, but most courses cost around £15-20 for a weekend course and £55 for a weeks course. All normal unit parade activities are FREE! Courses are optional.

How come it's so cheap?
The Sea Cadet Corps is partly subsidised by the Royal Navy and Sea Cadet Association (formerly the Navy League) but most of its money comes from fundraising activities, as both the Corps itself and each individual unit are registered charities. Unlike other cadet forces that are wholly funded by the MOD, The Sea Cadets rely on funds raised at fund raising events, unit subs and other donations.
