The main objective of the Jack Petchey Foundation is to help youth projects in East London and West Sussex and now Portugal. The scheme recognises the effort and achievement of young people, and rewards them and their voluntary organisations accordingly. A Cadet from Edmonton is nominated every 3 months for the Jack Petchey Achievement Award. The unit receives £200.00 from the Petchey Foundation which we are able to spend on training materials or by sending cadets away on courses, the cadet receives a signed certificate and badge.

Trafalgar Day Parade Selections

On Sunday 18 September, 8 cadets from Edmonton tried out for the Trafalgar Day selections, along with other cadets from within the London Area. After a day of hardwork on the parade square, throbing feet and sore arms from carrying rifles, all 8 were chosen to take part in the parade on 21 October. 3 cadets were selected to be in the armed guard using the new SA80 rifle, with the other 5 in the marching platoon. Amongst those successful in completing the selection process were cadets from the following units within North East District, Enfield, Southwark and Waltham Forest Units.

Well done to all cadets and look forward to seeing you on Trafalgar Square.

Sea Cadet Fest at Lakeside

The first weekend in September saw the Sea Cadet Corps take over the Lakeside Shopping Centre, Essex. The aim of the weekend was to publicise the Sea Cadet Corps in all it's glory, showing the general public how staff and cadets can have "Serious Fun".

Activities over the two days included both sea cadets and marine cadets, featuring armed drill, first aid, marine engineering, campcaft, cooks/steward, a hornpipe display and SCC band to name but a few. Some lucky cadets were able to spend their time "messing about on the water" with a display on the boating lake.

Bravo Zulu to all those who took part.
