Welcome!
to the website of Dunstable Sea Cadets.
Cadets (aged 12 to 18 years) meet every Monday and Wednesday 19:15 hrs until 21:15
Juniors (aged 10 and 11) meet every Wednesday 19:15 hrs until 21:15 hrs.
Our Unit covers Dunstable, Houghton Regis and Leighton Buzzard areas.
We offer young people excellent opportunities to develop life skills through involvement and activities not generally available in general youth organisations.

We Aim To

Activities
There are sports and outdoor activities (eg kayaking, shooting, windsurfing, sailing, drill, camping/survival, first aid & orienteering) to get involved in. Impress your friends with new-found skills, make new shipmates and put their talents to the test.
Cadets have the opportunity to spend a week, often in term time (authorised as "educational leave") doing general cadet training, often at the Sea Cadet Training Centre in Plymouth.
There are also opportunities to take trips on Royal Navy ships, help sail the Sea Cadet's square rigged flagship TS Royalist, attend training camps and maybe even fly in a Navy helicopter.

What is needed to Join?
Just yourself - and to be between 10 and 18 years old.
Come along on one of our parade nights, and have a look around. You don't have to decide to join there and then.
One thing you can be sure of is that at our Unit there are lots of friendly faces waiting to welcome participants aboard. The officers and instructors are all highly trained to make sure every aspect of Sea Cadet life is enjoyed. Rest assured that while you will find activities that are thrilling, they will also be safe.
In short, we are certainly a cut above the local youth club.

Why Join the Sea Cadets?
Because you want to have fun!
Because you want to do something worthwhile!
Because you want to belong to the best youth movement around!
Because you want to help your local community!
Because you want to learn new skills!
Because you want to meet challenges in the future with the Sea Cadet motto - Ready Aye Ready!

Costs?
Each unit is self-funding, so we have to raise money to help with the costs of the building as well as helping to pay for the many activities provided.
As a cadet, each parade night costs £1 and while legally this "sub" is optional we do expect cadets to pay (as it does help to keep the unit open). However, for those in financial hardship, we can waive this expectation (have a confidential word with the Officer in Charge).
We operate a Gift Aid scheme so we can claim back tax that has been paid by contributors from HM Revenue and Customs. We therefore welcome additional donations at any time - and even more if a Gift Aid declaration is signed.
Unlike most other youth organisations, the uniform (other than boots) does not have to be bought as it is provided by the Royal Navy. Cadets have the uniform on loan for which a small deposit is needed. Items are swapped with others held in stock when outgrown. The uniform must be handed back when leaving.
