Cambridge

Welcome to Cambridge Sea Cadets

Welcome to Cambridge Sea Cadets - TS Ganges.

We are the Original TS Ganges although our National Boating Station in Holyhead in Wales also share our TS name.

We have been established for over 60 years in Cambridge and had our previous Headquarters building in Cambridge on the Riverside, however we now have a brand new purpose built building just a few hundred metres away from the river next to the Museum of Technology in Cheddars lane.

We are always interested in meeting new faces either Juniors (10-12yrs) or seniors (12-18yrs) or staff (18-?yrs). Some of the cadets would like to start a Marine Cadet Detachment but we need to recruit more cadets before we can start one so come down and see what we are all about.

About the Sea Cadet Corps

The Sea Cadet Corps is a national youth organisation for boys and girls aged 10 to 18. It is open to all young people regardless of race, religion or colour and we draw our members from all backgrounds.

The Corps is disciplined and uniformed, but it is certainly not para-military, nor does membership imply a career in the Services or Merchant Navy.

The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines.

Through adventurous activities Cadets become self reliant, and through team work Cadets develop consideration and respect for others. The Corps encourages high personal standards and a sense of purpose, and provides a sound foundation for future Careers.

There are Sea Cadet Units throughout the whole of Great Britain therefore it makes sense to split Britain into different sectors, these are Called Areas.

In total there are Six Areas: Northern (N), North West (NW), Eastern (E), South West (SW), London (L) & Southern (S). Cambridge are in Eastern Area.

Each Area is then split down into Districts. In Eastern Area there are 9 Districts - Cambs & Beds, Fens, East Anglia, Trent, South Yorks & Humber, North & East Yorks, West Yorks, Northants & Leicester and Herts.

This breakdown is essential when entering competitions as they work like a knockout. Firstly, Units will enter at District level. If successful they will then go through to Area level, the best Units from each District against each other within that certain Area. If successful at Area you then compete at National level, the best Units from all 6 areas against each other. The winners then become the National Champion within the whole of the Sea Cadet Corps.
