TRAFALGAR PARADE IN LONDON
On Sunday 25th October 2009, 7 Beccles Sea Cadets joined over 400 cadets from across the U.K. to parade in Trafalgar Square to honour Nelson`s historic victory. They joined the other Cadets on Horse Guards Parade, marched to Trafalgar Square for a service and then marched down Pall Mall. The Beccles Cadets had to attend a pratice weekend at the RN Naval Base, H.M.S. EXCELLENT, Portsmouth from the 23rd Oct. They had to show that they paraded well and their turnout was up to standard and then to get together with other Cadets to be put through their paces ready for London. The staff, parents and committee were all very proud of them. They were all extremely smart and were definitely proud of their uniforms that day! All the hard work and dedication paid off and they should be very proud of themselves. The next time this district will be invited to attend will be in 9 years time so an experience not to be repeated for the 7 Beccles Sea Cadets involved. Lots of photos for the memories.

T.S. ROYALIST AUG 09
This was the summer that eight Cadets had the time of their lives on one of the Sea Cadets Training ships. T.S.Royalist is a fully rigged sailing ship. The Cadets travelled to Portsmouth docks to join Royalist. Within a few hours of arriving on board they were shinning up the main mast and having their post allocated to them. The weather was great and they were able to have her fully rigged with all sails many times during their voyage. Whilst on board they gained many qualifications, navigation etc. They also had loads of fun and made new friends.

Area Regatta
Congratulations to all the cadets who went from Beccles unit to the Area Regatta. We took 11 cadets in total, who with other District cadets managed to, win the Overall Kayaking Trophy, and also win the Overall Regatta Trophy, which was the first time since 1986! Well done Beccles cadets and East Anglia District!
Pulling
The boys pulling team consisted of; LC Toy, LC Spillings, LC Shaw, OC Stanley, and LC Williams as coxswain. They managed to gain a close 3rd in their races and a special mention has to go to the state of their hands which were covered in blisters.
The Boat Handling also went well. Ipswich entered a team and AC Gibbs represented Beccles. After some very good handling from coxswain and crew, they gained a respectable 2nd.
Another success was from the junior girls team. A mixed district team was entered and from Beccles unit Cdt Bacon and AC Bianco were entered. After some gruelling races the girls managed to come an amazing second! Excellent result! AC Bianco even got extra applause from the whole area.
Kayaking This year Beccles unit sent three canoeists to area, OC Buchanan raced for junior girls and won the relay, OC Shaw represented junior boys and gained a collection of second places, LC Spink won relay and came second at 800m sprint.
To top it all off After a rather tiring weekend our cadets even found time to get a radio mention with LC Spink talking live on Radio 1 about their amazing achievements! Congratulations guys a job well done!

Charity Dinner Sept 09
The Hotel Hatfield, Lowestoft was the venue for this years ball. The evening was started off with L/C Williams piping us into dinner and this was followed up with a excellent drumming display by the Cadets. The Hatfield did us proud with superb 5 course dinner followed by a disco. Loraines daughter, Claire, came all the way down from Edinburgh to run the evening and introduced our guests, Mayor & Mayoress of Beccles and our guest speaker, Captain H.Battye. It was great to see lots of uniforms around and we certainly put on a smart show. Loraine organised some great games and as the picture shows, the making of hats from bendy ballons was a great success. With a promise of a weeks holiday in Portugal everyone made sure they had raffle tickets. With a cheque presented on the night from the R.N.A we made a grand total of just under £1500. FANTASTIC. We now wait for 2010 ball to be announced.

Change at the top for TS BRAVE
In the early part of 2008 PO Meadows decided to stand down as the Officer in Charge of the Sea Cadets at Beccles, pressures from other quarters meant that she felt unable to fulfill the role to its full potential so stepped down. PO Sadler, previously the 1st LT, has taken over as Officer in Charge at Beccles and hopes that she can live up to the fantastic job that PO Meadows has started and guide the unit on, increasing the profile of TS Brave and encourage the young people of Beccles that we are proud to have at the unit. This year, 2009, PO Sadler passed her officers exam and is now known as S/LT S. Sadler. RNR and has now been officially given the job of COMMANDING OFFICER for the Beccles Unit. We all wish you well in your official postting as C.O. WELL DONE SIMMY.
Fortunately for TS Brave PO Meadows is staying on the staff, in her role as 1st Lt, so will continue to be a guiding hand for all at TS Brave.
