TAMWORTH UNIT HAS BEEN FORMED SINCE 1981 AT THE TIME OF THE ROYAL WEDDING AND WAS CALLED TS DIANA
1989 - TAMWORTH CHANGED IT'S NAME TO TS FORT GRANGE
SINCE THE YEAR 1996 TS FORT GRANGE HAS BEEN RECOGNISED AS ONE OF THE TOP UNITS IN THE SOUTH WEST AREA.
1981- At the time of the Royal Wedding PO Armitage moved to Tamworth and funded a unit which became known as Training Ship (TS) Diana. TS Diana began in a local High School called Belgrave with around 10 cadets.
1982- From Belgrave High School, TS Diana moved to Dosthill Football Club.
1983- TS Diana moved to the Magreger Primary School with around 15 cadets - all male. S/Lt Armitage then left the Unit and was replaced by Lt Williams
1985- From Magreger School, TS Diana moved for the last time to a new HQ at the bottom of West Street in Kettlebrook.
Lt Williams retired and was then replaced by Lt Stafford, the unit now had its own buildings with 10 Cadets attending.
1987- Lt Stafford left the Unit and the District Officer took over the running of the Unit for a short time with only 6 cadets attending. During 1987 the unit had a visit from the Captain of the Sea Cadets, Captain Thompson.
Lt Cdr Barrett joined the Unit and took over as Commanding Officer bringing new staff with him.
1988- Ts Diana received its first Pennant and was finally starting to move forward with 15 cadets attending - all males.
1989- The Executive Officer from RFA Fort Grange, who was from Tamworth, wrote to the Commanding Officer and asked for affiliation. The unit agreed and changed its name to TS FORT GRANGE.
1990- TS Fort Grange formed a GNTC Contingent with around 13 girls joining the Unit. The unit had 23 cadets and 5 staff. The unit HQ was burned down (Arson).
1995- After 5 years of rebuilding TS Fort Grange Lt Cdr Barrett retired leaving behind a unit with 30 cadets and the unit at Pennant standard for the past 5 years. Sub Lt Nicholls took over as commanding Officer.
1996- TS Fort Grange received its first Burgee status award.
1997- Our application for a lottery grant was approved for £181,000. TS Fort Grange now had its own purpose built HQ. The unit was now moving up the ladder in the district and other Units started noticing Tamworth Unit. TS Fort Grange received its 2nd Burgee.
1999- Lt Nicholls left the Unit in October and CPO Bradbury took over the running of the unit as Officer in Charge with 34 cadets.
2000- Sub Lt Bradbury became the Commanding Officer in August with a ships company of 72 cadets and 8 staff.
During 2000 TS Fort Grange introduced a new Management Committee and a Parents and Supporters Association. During the first year they raised over £25,000 to run the unit.
Since 1996 TS Fort Grange has kept its Burgee status and is now one of the top Units in the South West Area working toward becoming the top Unit in the Country. Royal Visit from HRH Prince Andrew to celebrate 20th Anniversary of Unit's Opening

OUR CADETS ARE OFFERED SEA GOING EXPERIENCE ON OUT TRAINING SHIPS AS WELL AS VISITS TO ROYAL NAVY ESTABLISHMENTS INLAND TRAINING IN SAILING, PULLING, POWER BOATING & CANOEING
