Congratulations LC Mauger

LC Mauger has been fortunate enough to be chosen to go on an Cadet Exchange to Australia. She will be going from 9th April to 26th April. We wish her a great trip and hope she enjoys it.

Drill & Piping Competitions

Everyone tried their best and did very well in the Drill and Piping Competitions on the 21st February. We had a 100% turn out and many parents came along and watched what was going on.
The Piping Team consisted of LC Mauger, Cadet S Owen and OC Davies and came 2nd overall.
OC Davies entered the individual Piping Competition and came in at 2nd place. This means he is to go on to the Area Competition on 7th March and we wish him good luck.
Juniors entered the Drill competition and won the shield for 1st place and their squadron commander Cadet Darwin won Junior Drill commander. Well done to all involved.

November Ceremonies

After 2 weekends collecting in Staines and Egham to raise money for The Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal the cadets took to the streets on Sunday 8th of November for Remembrance Sunday. The whole Unit was there looking extra smart. The cadets were by far the best marchers in the parade and did the unit proud by showing their respect to those who lost their lives while serving in the armed forces.

And Winter Arrives

September saw the end of canoeing as the evenings have started drawing in. However, this hasn't stopped the Cadets being extra busy.

First came a Royal Navy visit, which all the Cadets enjoyed. Not only did they learn about the Royal Navy but they got to play team games too.

Then came the last junior camp of the year at Middle Hill followed by the swimming gala at Cranleigh. (Which despite being a small Unit we did very well in)

Well done all who entered, especially Jnr Cadet Owens and LH Maugher who both got a third place and to Jnr Cadet Davies who won his race.

And then came October

The Cadets were fortunate enough to go on a visit to HMS St Albans, an operational type 23 frigate. (Thank you Logs CSP Chambers for organising this.) The Cadets had a great time, they were given a full tour of the ship, and if that wasn't enough they then spent the rest of the day on a harbour tour followed by a trip to Action Stations.

Three of the Cadets were awarded their piping badge (ready for the next competition!) Well done, you know who you are!

Here Comes The Sun

Well, summer has now just about gone and where was the sun then??
What have the cadets been up too? This year the river didn't flood and remained in the banks so the Cadets spent many a summer evening canoeing and doing boat work.

LC Mauger spent a fun week at Dartmouth at a Royal Navy Officer taster course. Cadet Davies went to Rosyth to do a week of boat work which he also thoroughly enjoyed.

On the home front the juniors are excited about the up and coming Middle Hill trip. (Except junior in waiting Chambers who turns ten on the last day of camp :( )

The cadets have been blessed with the company of two ex cadets. (and Chambers older siblings) One is a serving members of the Royal Navy and the other is at Welbeck Defence Sixth Form College both taught the Cadets drill and boat work.

Four cadets were awarded badges. Three were awarded blue and one received a red. Well Done! (You know who you are)

ROYAL NAVAL PARADE

The unit had its RNP last Thursday (16th July) on what turned out to be a very wet night, the evening started with the cadets being inspected by Major Andy Henderson RM in front of a big crowd which included parents and supporters and the former Mayor of Spelthorne. The inspection took place in the unit's river side grounds and many passers by stopped to watch.

BUSY BUSY BUSY!!

The Sea Cadets have had yet another busy month.
It began with an exciting trip to the Windsor Tattoo, moving swiftly on to Ashford on The Map. Junior Camp at Middle Hill took place on the same weekend, five juniors attended and all had a fantastic time. The Surrey District Canoeing Regatta was held at the new unit for the first time and L/C Mauger (our only representative) won third place in her race.
Now the cadets find themselves undergoing intensive training for the all important RNP which will take place on July 16.
Good Luck Cadets!

Windsor Castle Royal Tattoo

Despite the chilly weather the Cadets all had a brilliant time at Windsor Tattoo dress rehearsal.
The evening started well, AB Wall was put to shame by the Junior Cadets while they pumped out 40 push ups to his mere 20 at the RAF recruitment stand.
The Royal Marines played and the cadets watched in awe at the marching bands, the horses, the Jamaican fire dancer and many more.

Everyone had a good time and they were joined by cadets from, Woking ,Camberley, Farnham and Berkshire district.
