Unit History

Slough Sea Cadets were officialy formed on the 18th November 1937. Former locations have included Canterbury Avenue and Ditton Park before moving in 1995 to our current home in Langley.

UNIT STAFF

Commanding Officer
CPO Atkins

CPO Atkins joined TS Lion in 1984 when the unit was still at Canterbury Avenue. His promotions have included Petty Ofice and Chief Petty Officer.

After being 1stLT on 2 occasions he was given Command of TS Lion in January 2003. At this time the unit was sitting in 8th place in the district table and had 6 cadets and 3 staff including himself.

Since taking command the unit has risen to a strength of 25 cadets and 12 staff. Unfortunatly 2009 is his last year and he will be missed by cadets and staff.

His qualifications include - Drill Instructor, Field Gun Trainer, Seamanship Instructor, RYA Powerboat Instructor.

1st LT
CPO Spencer

CPO Spencer joined TS Lion in 1998 as part of the Unit Management Committee. After serving 2 years he transfered to the uniformed side of the unit as a Civillian Instructor. In 2003 and with a change of command he was given the role of Unit 1stLT. From their he completed his Instructor Qualifiying course to become a Petty Officer before once again being promoted in March 2009 to Chief Petty Officer.

Qualifications include - RYA Powerboat Instructor, Seamanship Instructor, Piping Assessor, Marine Enginnering Instructor to name but a few.

Training Officer
PO Spencer

PO Spencer joined TS Lion in 1997 as a 10 year old Junior Cadet.

She worked her way up the cadet ranks and finished as a Petty Officer Cadet and Lord LT Cadet. Qualifications held as a cadet include Pulling Instructor, Drill Instructor.

She has also paraded the field gun at Bisham Abbey as part of the Queens Golden Jubilee, Been part of the 2008 Parade Training Staff for the Sea Cadet National Trafalgar Parade.

She was part of the Field Gun Crew that paraded in front of the Queen at the last Royal Tournament in 1999.

Currently PO Spencer is part of the Instructional Staff at the Sea Cadet National Training Centre SCTC Inskip near Preston

Who Can Join

We provide training for both Male and Female cadets from all cultural backgrounds. The cadets are split into two sections.

Sea Cadets

Male and Female from the age of 12 to 18

Junior Cadets

Male and Female from the age of 10 upto 12

Also we are always loking out for potential Instructors, Unit Management Committe members and general unit helpers.

As an adult member of the unit you will need to be aged 18 and upwards and be prepared to supply references and complete CRB clearance

How Much Does It Cost

Our main Unit nights on a Monday and Thursday cost £1.00 per evening.

Much of the Unit organised training outside of these times is free.

Otherwise courses can cost from as little as £10.00 for a weekend upto £240.00 for a week away including food, accomodation.

Having said that the majority of week long courses held at Sea Cadet Training centres around the country cost £65.00

What Do We Offer

The majority of the training will be carried out within Slough Unit. All Instructors are qualified in their various specialisations and have been CRB checked before they are permitted to commence unsupervised training.
