We are fortunate to have Poole Harbour on our doorstep. In the summer, boating is very popular. Our boating activities include sailing, pulling (rowing) and power-boating. Cadets can gain Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) qualifications and Royal Yachting Association (RYA) qualifications in these skills. The Unit is also an accredited RYA centre for training.
We offer training in ropework & rigging, chartwork, marine engineering, communications, first aid, and ceremonial drill. We also offer training in campcraft and cross-country expeditions.
We have a very active band, which regularly parades at local ceremonies – including the Remembrance Parade in Poole Park each November and various civic ceremonies.
There can be opportunities for Cadets to visit, and sometimes to sail in, Royal Naval ships. In 2008, six Cadets spent two days on the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Lyme Bay when she stood off Bournemouth during the Bournemouth Air Show.
In summer 2008, 6 Poole Cadets spent five days on the square-rigged T S Royalist and 10 Cadets made a voyage on the motor vessel TS John Jerwood.
