Our Staff
Padstow unit would be nothing compared to what it is today, without the help of the staff that volunteer to help train the cadets, giving up there free time to teach and train the cadets and themselves.

H.M.S. CORNWALL
Ship's Motto: Unus et Omnes - One and All
HMS Cornwall is a Type 22 frigate, "stretched" approximately 17 m longer than the original Broadsword Class. She was launched in October 1985 and commissioned at Falmouth, Cornwall in 1988 by the Ship's sponsor, Diana Princess of Wales. Following the untimely death of Princess Diana, Lady Mary Holborow, Lord Lieutenant of the County of Cornwall assumed responsibilities.
The Ship is the first of the Batch 3 Type 22 Frigates and is part of Devonport Flotilla. The Commanding Officer is Commander Johnny Ley. HMS Cornwall has battle honours from Barfleur in 1692, the Falkland Islands in 1914 and the Dardanelles in 1915. She is affiliated to the County of Cornwall, The Light Infantry and the Worshipful Guild of Leathersellers amongst others.
Following an intensive 8 week package of Operational Sea Training in the Plymouth Exercise Areas at the beginning of the year to prove her operational capability, HMS Cornwall is now deployed as part of Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (or SNMG2) which is the the group of NATO ships that normally operate in and around the Mediterranean. In June, HMS Cornwall took over duties as the Flagship of SNMG 2 when Commodore Steve Chick CBE Royal Navy enmbarked having assumed Command of the Group from the Italians. This change in Command heralded a change in tasking for the Group, and HMS Cornwall and the rest of the NATO ships of SNMG2 are now conducting Counter Piracy operations off the Horn of Africa.

H.M.S. DASHER
Part of the Royal Navy Cyprus Squadron and wearing the pennant number P280 Dasher has seen dramatic change since her time as an URNU training craft. Fitted with Kevlar armor and three GPMGs she is now fit to undertake the rigours of operations in Cyprus. The manning differ from that of a domestic P2000 due to weapons fit, with an extra man employed as a Gunners Yeoman.
Based within RAF Akrotiri her role has developed from her initial requirement in 2003. Primarily employed in Force Protection of visiting Ships and BFC designated high value units, she also conducts Internal Security (IS) patrols protecting the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) large maritime flank and provides directed continuation training to visiting RN units. Support of the SBA Civil Authorities such as the Police and Customs and Excise, both operationally and for training, are also key engagements.
