Sean Excels at Duke Of Westminsters Award
Petty Officer Cadet Sean Vanstone is one of the many thousands of Army, Air, Combined Cadet Force and Sea cadets that are eligible to be nominated for the Duke of Westminster’s Award for the most outstanding cadets in all of the cadet forces.
Having met all the initial eligibility criteria, Sean was nominated by his unit, and was enter into the scheme with many thousands more. Initially he won through to the top 40 candidates, and then he was successful in achieving a place in the top 25 cadets of all the cadet forces! The CVQO team then sifted the candidates down to the top 15, all of which will attend an arduous selection weekend, to select the top 9 cadets, all of which will go to South Africa for a 2 week visit, additionally the top cadet gets a monetary prize of £500 and 2nd, 3rd and 4th places get £250. Sean has just returned from the selection weekend, and we await his results. Best of luck and BZ for being in the top 15 cadets on all the cadet forces of the United Kingdom.

Sean is Appointed HM Lord Lieutenant Cadet
Petty Officer Cadet Sean Vanstone is invested as Her Majesty's Lord Lieutenats Cadet for West Glamorgan, at a ceremony held at John Chard VC House in February 2008. Congratulations to Sean, we are sure he will do an excellent job.

Cadet Enjoy Camping Weekend
Over the weekend of OCTOBER 19th to 21st cadet from Neath unit enjoyed a weekend under canvas as guest of thier shipmates at TS Echo (Llanelli Sea Cadets).
12 cadets and 1 officer spent the weekend under canvas at pembrey country park, enjoying the beautiful scenery and surroundings, and above all relaxing.
Many thanks to our hosts who looked after us extremely well, we hope to do it again, when it's WARMER !!!!

West Wales District - Cleans Up Again
Over the weekend of the 5th to 7th September 2007, cadets from West Wales District Sea Cadets, represented the District against the remaining 8 Districts in the South West Area Swimming & Shooting Competition, held at HMS Raleigh in Plymouth.
Neath cadets were participating in both the Swimming & Shooting.
Overall the combined West Wales Team cleaned up and won the overall competition for the second year running.

Neath Cadets, Shoot & Swim to Sucsess
Over the weekend of 8th - 9th September 2007, West Wales District undertook it's annual Shooting & Swimming Competitions.
Neath unit entered both events, with a total of 10 cadets representing the unit.
Andrew Cumpstone shot very well, and consequently won a place in the team to go to the Area Shooting Competition, with Fishguard Unit being the overall shooting winners.
Our swimmers after a superb balanced team effort, came away victorious, winning lots of individual medals, as well as the overall gala itself.
Credit must go to Mr Simon Pierce & Petty Officer Pierce who assembled the swimming team, and Petty Officer Gilchrist for training the shooting team. The cadets themselves compeated well in a fair and sportsmanlike way, whcih typifies the conduct of Neath Sea Cadets.

Neath Sea Cadets Support Welsh Dragons Burns Club
On Saturday 25th August 2007, 16 children in addition to the adult volunteers from the Dragon Burns Club attended a fun day arranged in conjunction with Neath & District Sea Cadets & Corus Strip Products UK.
The children had a go at Sailing, powerboating, canoeing and Air Rifle Shooting.
The weather was fantastic with a nice gentle breeze for the sailors. This is the second year we have hosted this event, and we are delighted to support such a fantastic group of people, said Simon Oglesby, Commanding Officer and a Corus Employee.

Cadets Sail into Sucess
Cadets Vanstone & Pierce attended the South West Area Sailing Regatta held in Weymouth Bay over the weekend of July 27 to 29th, competing against teams from all over the South West Area.
In a trying conditions they sailed superbly, and sailed with ease into 3rd place out of the fleet of 27 boats that were competing.
This means that both Sean & Cerith will now represent the South West Area at the UK National Sailing Regatta in Portsmouth during September.

Seafarers UK Support Local Sea Cadets
Seafarers UK have just announced a donation of £300 towards the Neath & District Sea Cadets.
Neath & District cadets support the Seafarers at their regular collection in and around the town.
The committee, staff and cadets wish to express their thanks at the Seafarers, continued and most generous support.

South Wales Boat Show
Saturday 16th & Sunday 17th June 2007 saw cadets from Neath, Swansea, Port Talbot & Fishguard attending the South Wales Boat Show, to fly the Sea Cadet Flag as it were.
Cadets provided displays for the members of the public, and manned a recruitnig tent.
During the weekend all the cadets participated in an inter unit compeitition, with the two wining units, namely Neath & Fishguard collecting prizes of half a days sailing or canoeing and half a days yachting respectively.

Sea Cadet help out with Clean Our Canal
Neath Sea Cadets, joined by Neath Air and Army cadets, teamed up to support a Melin Communities First and Keep Wales Tidy Initiative on a very rainy May Saturday.
The tri service cadet team was tasked with removing a substantial amount of refuse and debris that people had seen fit to dump in and around a stretch of the Neath Canal.
The Army & Air cadets took charge of the shores, whilst the sea cadets got afloat and removed sack up on sack of rubbish from the canal including a wheelie bin and a bed!
In just 2 hours the team filled a commercial size skip.

New man at the helm
As from the 1st May 2007 Lieutenant (SCC) Simon Oglesby Royal Naval Reserve was appointed as Office In Charge of Training Ship Encounter No 388.
Lieutenant Oglesby replaces Lieutenant Commander (SCC) Mike Hulonce Royal Naval Reserve, who after 47 years at Neath unit man and boy, has decided to move on to new challenges working as part of the Sea Cadet District Officer team.
We thank Mike for all his efforts over the years and wish him well in his new appointment.

CORUS Community Fund Help Neath Cadets
Recently Corus Strip Products UK has donated money to Neath & District Sea Cadets, in order for us to update the IT equipment in use at the unit, enabling us to participate in the Project Westminster roll - out, as well as helping to start construction of a new jetty at the Corus Sailing Club Margam , for use by the Sea Cadets.

Allotment Society Supports Neath Sea Cadets
Sadly the closure of the Giants Grave Allotment Society two and a half years ago has finally been completed after 30 years of serving the community in Briton Ferry.
The Society have sold off their building and remaining assets, and distributed the proceeds amongst good causes within the community, one of which is Neath & District Sea Cadets.
