GIFT AID HAS BEEN A REAL BONUS

Unit Treasurer Ian Spreadborough

January has been a draw on the unit reserves with the latest round of repairs required on the minibus totalling nearly £ 800.00; and that’s without the next service which is due shortly.
To the unit, the vehicle is a necessity making it so much easier to transport cadets to all manner of events, courses and competitions; it is just one example of the expenses we need to fund on an ongoing basis to run a successful unit.

A new initiative for the unit this year was to sign up to the Gift Aid system. Very simply put, this enables the unit to re-claim from the Government £ 2.82 for each £ 10.00 paid on behalf of any cadet by a UK tax payer. The claim for the first nine months of the year has just been submitted which totalled over £ 500.00. A very worthwhile sum considering it costs the participating adult nothing over their original contribution.

If you pay tax and have not yet considered doing so, please pick up a Gift Aid form from the unit admin office; there is still time for the unit to claim the gift aid on contributions since the beginning of this year and benefit from the extra funds available.

If you have any aspects you would like to clarify before doing so please do not hesitate in contacting the Chairman or myself.

MAYOR OF MEDWAY NOMINATES MTSC AS ONE OF HER OFFICIAL CHARITIES

Medway Towns Sea Cadets have been nominated by the newly incumbent Mayor of Medway Councillor Val Goulden as one of her official charities for 2007 / 2008
Val has been a long time supporter and freind to TS Cornwallis for many years.
She is also a member of our unit management committee demonstrating her continued support for the best youth organisation in the UK.
During her year office she will also be our Vice-President a role steeped in unit tradition for the serving Mayor, previously of Gillingham and then after merger of Medway.
Unit Chairman Ivor Riddell said of the news. "Cllr Val Goulden has been a great friend to us for many years supporting our events and raising much needed funds. She was also responsible for brokering a sponsorship arrangement with mhs homes in 2006 / 07 which was the biggest sponsorship deal in the units history.
We look forward to her continued patronage and supporting her role through the Mayors cadet and the Mayors Guard which will attend selected events through the year, to provide proper marks of respect due to an Admiral or the River".
