...and engineers.

2008 DAfT weekend in Inverness

Over the May bank holiday weekend, Highland District gathered at Inverness Unit for a DAfT weekend (District Afloat Training!). Forty-one cadets attended from 7 Units, and 86 qualifications were completed consolidating the training carried out at each Unit. 60 of these were waterborne - Paddlesports, Pulling, Powerboating and Sailing all being on offer.

Being short of space to bed everyone down, some cadets camped outside and finished their Campcraft and Expedition qualifications after the snowy weather got the better of us at Easter camp. The weather was kind this time, sun block and after-sun being called into use each day, yes, even in the frozen North!

And one of the qualifications was all that was needed to finally promote AC Sutherland to Leading Cadet, so a very successful weekend all round, and for her especially. Well done Highland.

A visit to French Patrol Ship Cormoran

10-May-08
Inverness Sea Cadets were invited to a tour of the French Naval Patrol Ship Cormoran. She was visiting Inverness harbour at the end of an exercise, before resuming fishery patrol duties off the French coast.

Our thanks go to the Captain, LV Ciavarella for allowing us aboard, and to Petty Officer MT Collin for showing us around.

SCC Yachts visit Inverness

10-May-08
The two Sea Cadet yachts, TS Vigilant and TS City Liveryman, visited Inverness for a crew change on their cruise round the UK. Before the new crew joined, we were invited to see how it all works.

The joining crew included cadets from Wick, Moray, Inverness and Oban Units, for the cruise through the Caledonian Canal, Loch Ness and the Great Glen to Oban.

Northern Area 5-A-Side Football 2008

January 2008
On the 12th and 13th of January cadets from Inverness and Orkney units played as Highland District in the 5-a-side football Area competition. We went down to Tranent past Edinburgh and stayed over night at Musselburgh Unit to come home proud of our 4th place in the junior boys competition.

Specialisation Weekend - Dec 2007

We had a specialisation weekend with Seamanship 3rd class...

...and Writer Stores 3rd class.
We had loads of fun and we learned all lot of things at the weekend.

The Giant Sleep Over - June 2007

The Inverness Sea Cadets had a sleepover with all the Junior Cadets at our Unit. We had so much fun playing games (getting very wet!) and doing record breaking stuff.

NB Because of England sinking after the rain, many sleepovers were cancelled and the record for most people sleeping over at the same time, and for the most people brushing their teeth at the same time, weren't broken this time. We will try again next year.

Rollerbowl - Jun 2007

To celebrate raising over £600 by bag packing at Marks & Spencers recently, the UMC treated us to a night out bowling.
It was cadet Walkers Birthday which would mean he would be promoted to Cadet.
When we had our tea at the café he got a Birthday cake.

We had great fun and enjoyed it very much.

Inverness Tattoo 2006

The Inverness Tattoo takes place the last full week of July each year, for well over 50 years now. The show is in aid of the tri-service cadets and the audience is about 4-5000 people over the week.

Getting ready...

... and we're off...

...with the Juniors as well, for the first time.

Soon it's time for a cup of tea...

...and a bit of a blether...

...before flying round...

...the assuault course...

...and the Final Parade.

Sea Sunday

Some of the Cadets and Juniors attended the Sea Sunday service at our Padre's church.

The Giant Sleep Over 2006

Inverness Sea Cadet Junior Section joined the national sleeping marathon last night and helped raise much needed funds for the unit as well as ChildLine, as well as having a lot of fun and getting VERY wet.
The BT Giant Sleepover was also a world record breaking attempt for the biggest sleep over on one night across the UK. In addition, in another world record attempt, the Minty Mouth Challenge supported by Aquafresh, we attempted to beat the record for the largest simultaneous teeth brushing session, so we should all be happy, smiley double Guinness World Record holders!

...and PO Stewart had to give the Ghost Story before bedtime!

Chanonry Sailing Club

June 2006
CSC celebrated 50 years at the start of June 2006 with a gala day and fundraising for the RNLI.
We went along to get wet...

A ship visit to HMS Sutherland at Invergordon. We were given a fantastic tour and the crew looked after us really well.

Talk Like A Pirate

Talk Like A Pirate day was to raise money for Marie Curie, a cancer charity. You can see the Admin Officer and ME instructor were held to ransom. The 1st/Lt was put in the stocks and pelted with wet sponges until he gave up! The Commitee had a meeting that night and didn't escape until they had paid up as well!
