Cadets out at sea
Whilst many of the Unit were away at Summer Camp, three senior cadets, PO D Cannon and PO Richardson took the opportunity to get in some extra training and took the Sea Cadet RIB "Challenger" out to sea.
The cadets learned the differences between operating in inland and coastal waters and also had a great time trying to soak the staff!
Before finishing for the evening, they were also invited into Lowestoft Harbour control, and managed to cause chaos in Lowestoft by raising the Bascule Bridge to allow a tug out to sea

Cooking up a storm!!
Congratulations to Petty Officer Burlingham, who returns home from SCTC Caledonia today after passing her Cook Steward Instructor's course.
After a long journey on Sunday, PO Burlingham spent a week learning about how to teach Cadets everything from food hygiene, folding napkins, to laying out buffets and preparing food.
This is another qualification which will enable Cadets to get 'hands on' and gain valuable skills to help them in the progression up the advancement scale, and indeed - help them outside of Cadets in civvie life.
Well done PO!

City of London Sea Cadets swap the Thames for the Broads
Over the Easter Holidays, a group of 30 from City of London Sea Cadets hired three broads cruisers and spent a week navigating the broads. On their final day, they made their way to Oulton Broad, and joined TS NORFOLK for a day of exciting boatwork training and water based fun, and were even lucky enough to sample a "PO Richardson Barbeque".
Both units were able to take advantage of each others skills, and a great day was had by all.

Cadets visit HMCC Vigilant
On Friday 4th September, the unit was invited onboard the HM Customs Cutter Vigilant. This was a great opportunity for the cadets to see life onboard a working ship which is actively involved in anti smuggling, and also the changes that were happening onboard, as it switches function to the "UK Border Agency".
The cadets were given a tour of the ship by senior members of the crew, an honour as the ship is usual out of bounds to the public.
A big thank you to the crew and captain from all at TS NORFOLK

Tony Wright MP visits TS NORFOLK
On Friday 10th July, TS NORFOLK opened it’s doors to a multitude of guests, including family and friends of the cadets, and representatives of organisations who have assisted the Unit in it’s development and regeneration.
The Guest of honour was Mr Tony Wright MP, who as well as being the Member of Parliament for Great Yarmouth also Chairs the All Party Sea Cadet Committee at Westminster. The evening began with Mr Wright inspecting the Guard of Honour led by Able Cadet Chelsea Lawrence, and this was followed by the enrolment of three New Entry Cadets into the Unit (New Entry Towers; New Entry DeBlock and New Entry Watlow).
Once the main ceremonial part was complete, Mr Wright unveiled a new plaque to commemorate the completion of the main building work and was then given a tour of the new facilities by Officer in Charge PO (SCC) Graeme Richardson and UMC Chairperson Mr David Kilpatrick. The night ended with demonstrations and displays by the cadets.
Mr Wright commented on how impressed he was with the cadets, and how much work had been done since his last visit and hoped he could continue to assist the Unit wherever possible.
Thank you to all who have been involved with this project, it really is appreciated, and means TS NORFOLK can continue to stand proud in the community for many more years to come.

Cadets visit TS ROYALIST - 28.05.09
The flagship of the Sea Cadet Corps TS ROYALIST came into Great Yarmouth on Thursday 28th May.
Continuing it’s circumnavigation of Great Britain, the vessel was in port for a crew change before setting off on it’s next voyage to Hartlepool.
Cadets took the opportunity to visit onboard and meet the permanent crew of the Ship, as well as the cadets who were preparing to disembark having sailed her from Ramsgate. This was an excellent opportunity for cadets to see what life onboard is like while they continue to prepare for their own offshore voyage on the Sea Cadet motor vessel TS JOHN JERWOOD in September.
The cadets were given a tour of the vessel and also the opportunity to ask questions was given by the Ship’s Captain.
Big thank you to all involved for having us!

HMS HURWORTH in Great Yarmouth 27.02 - 02.03.09
Royal Naval Minehunter HMS HURWORTH spent the weekend in Great Yarmouth to act as the centrepiece for the 800th Anniversary of the King John Charter.
Cadets and staff played a major part in the celebrations and were involved in many aspects.
On Saturday, we joined the Ship's Company of HMS HURWORTH for a parade along the quayside and back to the town hall.
This was followed on the Sunday by a special invitation by the Captain to visit the Ship, and we were given a guided tour by the crew.
Finally on Monday, some of the staff (those of us who could escape from our jobs) lined up outside the Unit, and saluted the Ship as she made her way out of the Harbour. The salute was acknowledged and returned by the Officer of the Watch. This was followed up by a radio message from the Ship's Bridge wishing us well, and looking forward to their return in September for the Maritime Festival.

Building Improvements / Renovation continues
The ongoing programme to improve the facilities at the Unit is picking up pace:
The new disabled toilet and shower facilities is almost complete, and the new Bosun's Store is now in place.
As I write this, the cement is also being laid in our new gangway and the Accessible Ramp being prepared.
Coming hot on the heels of the central heating and double glazing being installed as well as the suspended insulated ceilings, things are really on the move.
