About Great Yarmouth Sea Cadets

The Sea Cadets as a youth organisation can trace its history in Gt Yarmouth all the way back to the 1850’s and the early days of the Naval Lads Brigade. TS Norfolk as a Sea Cadet Corps Unit can be traced back to the mid 1940’s when they were housed at “Koolunga House” on High Road, Gorleston on Sea. It was then called TS Wishbone.

Unit 160 changed it’s name to TS Yarmouth when she became affiliated to HMS Yarmouth and the name remained until she was decommissioned in 1985. HMS Norfolk became our affiliated ship when she was put into service in 1989 and the Unit changed its name to TS Norfolk accordingly.

Now based on Riverside Road in Gorleston, we have excellent facilities with new central heating and toilet / shower facilities offering a clean, safe and secure environment for training.

The modern day unit boasts a large fleet of two powerboats, 3 sailing boats, a pulling (rowing) boat and six canoes which are used throughout the summer season at our boating station at Oulton Broad.

We offer courses in: RYA Powerboat Level 1 & 2 (Planing & Displacement)
RYA Safety Boat Course
RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stage 1-4
RYA National Sailing Scheme Levels 1 & 2
SCC Pulling Scheme at all levels

A number of these courses are also run for the public or members of other units. Please contact us for more information at admin@tsnorfolk.org
