Fundraising. Why?
A lot of people ask us why we have to do fundraising and ask for donations. The Sea Cadets (and Guildford Sea Cadets) are both registered charities and all of our running costs and any one-off project costs have to come from donations or fundraising events. Our cadets pay a very small amount towards unit upkeep and this helps but there are a lot of costs associated with running a Sea Cadet unit.
This is why we need the help of the Unit Management Committee (UMC) and the Parents and Supporters Association (PSA). They manage the unit but also raise funds and distribute them according to need. However, we also need the help of the local community and general public as we are always trying to expand our activities and remit across Guildford and the wider area.
This page explains some of our strategies towards funding and what events are taking place or have taken place in the local area. If you think you might be able to support the unit either by contributing your time and effort or financially then please contact us by clicking here.
Unlike the other Cadet Forces, each local Sea Cadet Unit is an individually registered charity responsible for raising the money each year to cover the entire running costs of their own facilities (i.e.heating, lighting, electricity, insurance, repairs, maintenance costs, river licences, minibus maintenance and fuel, computers etc). For TS Queen Charlotte, this comes to at least £14,000 per annum and increasing each year at higher than the rate of inflation.
SCC Headquarters have carried out a Baseline Survey to assess the condition of Units throughout the country. Guildford have identified a significant programme of work that is required to be carried out over the coming years to maintain and update our premises and equipment to help continue the work of the Sea Cadets for generations to come. Don't panic, however we will need a continual effort to raise more funds over and above our running costs.

Raise Money for Guildford Sea Cadets by Going Shopping!
We know that everybody likes shopping. So we have set up a scheme where you can just click on one of the banners above or below (Amazon or Buy.at), do your normal online shopping, and we will get a proportion of the profits. Please take a look at which online retailers support us. If you are using any of them to do online shopping then please click through our website first. It isn't anymore expensive to you (the consumer) as any funds given to us are from a companies marketing budget. They do have some great deals too!

The Parents and Supporters Association (PSA)
The Unit has an active Parents and Supporters Association which meets regularly to raise vital funds needed to keep the Ship running. We encourage parents and supporters to help in practical ways on parade nights and other events. This includes helping in the galley providing "nutty" for Cadets at Stand-Easy and with refreshments for Staff.
Besides our annual Flag Days and bag packing at local supermarkets, we also organise popular social events at the Unit including BBQ's and bonfire night fireworks.
The P&SA's “90 Club” is a monthly draw which costs just £1 a month to enter – and a better chance of a win than the National Lottery! Please sign up and support this fundraising initiative.

Collections & Money Boxes
If anyone can persuade a shopkeeper in their area to take a Guildford Sea Cadets Charity collection box for customers’ small change, please tell Rob Helliwell, who is the UMC Treasurer.

Venue Hire - Making Use of Our Facilities
To find out more about our facilities then please look at the unit section on the About our Unit page by clicking here.
One of our objectives is to encourage the use of our great riverside facilities by means of Joint Training Weekends and other inter Unit, District, Area or National events. We are also looking to widen our letting activity to approved organisations in order to increase revenue.
Our modern buildings are well suited to group activity with an excellent galley and full washroom facilities. Please contact us if you would like to take advantage of of what we have to offer.
