Bowling and Santa's Grotto fundraising - 19th December 2009
On Friday evening we braved the snow and cold weather and went bowling in Dunstable for our Christmas party.
After staying the night at the unit we awoke early to set up the unit for our bring and buy sale (complete with cakes, books, and barbies) and awaited Santa's arrival in our very own Grotto.
The fundraising morning was very successful, and we all had a lot of fun taking part, thanks to the staff for the bowling on Friday, and well done to everyone for raising £126.44...which will go towards the funds for our new boat.

Summer Camp 2009
This year our Summer camp took place at Stewartby sailing club over bank holiday weekend in August We arrived to put the tents up in gale force winds and wondered what the odds were for it still being windy the next day. After a very windy night the day dawned with perfect sailing weather although it didn't suit the pulling boat class they and the sailors had a very productive weekend ending with sail race training which turned very competitive with PO Mead and PO Barnes taking part. We all took turns with cooking supervised by the staff with AC Ben McGovern making a tasty spagehtti bolognaise.
Thanks to all the staff and especially to Stewartby Sailing Club for the use of their facilties Check out the photos

District Winners 2006
The unit has again won the District Points Trophy by gaining 64 points in total from District Competitions during the year. This is the 8th consecutive year that the cadets efforts have been rewarded with this trophy.

5 Aside
The unit gained its best result to date at the recent District Competition in Luton, thanks to their new coach and loudest supporter Lt P Waring. Both Junior and Senior Girls teams won their competitions, the Junior Boys came 2nd and the Senior Boys 3rd. The Girls teams are now on their way to the Area Event in St Ives on 3rd December.
Update
The cadets once again done the unit proud. Both the Junior and Senior girls teams finished in a very credible third place. The junior girls were beaten in a penalty shootout after extra time, whilst the seniors were knocked out when the opposition hit a long hopeful ball towards our goal. Only for it to take a deflection and go in. Not a bad result for a unit who doesn't play much.

Summer Camp
Each year, in August, the unit packs up its tents and sets off the Falmouth for a weeks sailing, camping and fun. In 2006 some 23 cadets and 12 adults joined in. We sail in the bay using the boats and equipment from RNAS Culdrose Boatstation and camp at a friendly family site in Maenporth. Cadets can gain experience in both sailing and power craft and we train everyone from complete novice to trainee instructor.
