The Unit
At City of Salford we have both Sea Cadets (12-18 years old) and Marine Cadets (13-18 years old).
At City of Salford Unit, as in all units, the instruction of our cadets is based on the training, customs and traditions of the Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Our aim is to help young people towards responsible adulthood by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct using a nautical theme based on these customs.

Marine Cadets
There are approximately 400 Sea Cadet units in the UK and of these around 90 that have a Marine Cadet Detachment.
The Marine Cadet Detachments are trained in many of the skills of the Royal Marines. We do not expect our cadets to have the same level of fitness as a Royal Marine, but, many of our cadets do achieve improved fitness due to the training we offer. In addition to the Marine Cadet training, our marine cadets are able to undertake all of the training opportunities on offer in the Sea Cadets.
Unlike the Royal Marines which, with the exception of the Royal Marines Bands, are exclusively male, the Marine Cadets can accept girls from 13 years of age. Salford is not currently able to accept female Marine Cadets as we are actively recruiting an instructor. We can, of course, accept female Sea Cadets.
