About the Sea Cadet Corps
The Sea Cadet Corps is a national youth organisation for boys and girls aged 12 to 18. Christchurch Unit also has a Junior Section for those aged between 11 and 12 years.
It is open to all young people regardless of race, religion or ability and we draw our members from all backgrounds.
The Corps is disciplined and uniformed, but it is certainly not para-military, nor does membership imply a career in the Armed Services or Merchant Navy.

Our Aim
The aim of the Sea Cadet Corps is to help young people towards responsible adulthood, by encouraging valuable personal attributes and high standards of conduct, using a nautical theme based on the customs of the Royal Navy.
Through adventurous activities Cadets become self reliant, and through team work Cadets develop consideration and respect for others. The Corps encourages high personal standards and a sense of purpose, and provides a sound foundation for future careers.

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme
The Sea Cadets is the ideal place to undertake the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme as many of our activities directly map onto the award elements.

Corps Structure
The nation is broken into six areas. Christchurch Unit is in Southern Area. Southern Area is then broken into Districts. Christchurch Unit is in Wessex District.
There are eleven Units in Wessex District. They are Winchester, Jersey, Guernsey, Bournemouth, Christchurch, Parkstone, Poole, Romsey, Salisbury, Warsash, and Southampton.

Unit Management Committee
Each Sea Cadet Unit is overseen and looked after by a Unit Management Committee (UMC). This is required as the Unit is a registered charity. The UMC is made up of parents, helpers or anyone wishing to be involved (you do not need to be ex-Navy). Currently there are nine members in the UMC and they are always on the lookout for helpers. Typical activities are to fund raise, organise the purchase of new equipment and to look after the maintenance of unit facilities. It can be fun and we need all sorts of skills.
If you do not fancy being on the UMC there is an active Parents and Supporters Association who raise money for the Cadets' needs. The PSA meets on a monthly basis and organise social and fund-raising events.
New members are always welcome
