Now Read On To See What You Can Do!!

What don't we do?! Not only can we do waterborne activities such as sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, power boating, (these qualifications are to nationally recognised standards e.g. RYA), rowing, etc, we can shoot, swim, hike, camp and fly, as well as visiting Royal Naval ships and establishments, and do specialist courses in ropework, navigation, communications, engineering, physical training, and so on. As long as the insurance covers it, there is nothing we can't do.

When are we open?

We parade on Mondays and Thursdays beween 1930 and 2130.
Staff & cadets turn up from 1910
Mondays during the summer months we go boating at Cookham on the river Thames. Transport leaves the unit at 1830 & gets back at 2140. Please check with the C.O if you're not sure.

Who can Join?

Anyone between the ages of 12 and 17 can join as a cadet. Those who join between 10 and 12 will join as a Junior Sea Cadet and will have their own tailored training program.
Over 18's can join as staff.

How much does it cost?

Cadets are asked to pay a subscription of £1.50 per parade night that they attend which goes towards the upkeep of the unit and the equipment we use.
Juniors only attend once a week on a Thursday during the winter months & this only costs £1. During the summer boating months they pay the same as the other cadets as they attend both parade nights.

Cadets can also attend weekend courses at £8 including all food & accomadation, also National courses which will cost more but are for a week long and also include food, accomodation and the cost of training. These courses can take place in other units, at specialist Sea Cadet Training Centres or on Royal Navy bases.

Interested?

Come along to the unit during a parade night. We will make you welcome and show you around the unit, meet the staff, and mingle with cadets.

If you want to join, there is a couple of forms that your parent or guardian will need to sign (to say that you are allowed to join), so bring them along as well.

And don't worry. At some time, every cadet has had to walk through the gate for the first time, not knowing much about what we do! If you want to bring a friend, that is fine.

Help, I can't swim!!

Being able to swim is not a requirement, although it is to your benefit, and our swimming test is really basic.
All the waterborne activities we take part in require the correct lifejackets or buoyancy aids to be worn, even if only standing on the pier.
