Sea Cadets Pay their Respects on Rememberance Sunday

Many thanks to the cadets who turned up to pay their respects on rememberance sunday. It was a good turn out and the cadets did the unit proud.

Canterbury Squad Ranks In District Drill Competition

The Canterbury Drill squad exceeded expectations at this years drill competition held at Folkestone Unit.

The Cadets were praised on their appearance and the effort that they put into their routine.

The Squad was announced as the Runner up Best Dressed Squad award and L/C Symons ranked joint runner up in best dressed individual.

Well done to the cadets who ranked 3rd in the competition overall with many thanks for your effort and patience

Visit to Life Boat Station Ramsgate

The unit took some of the cadets to Ramsgate lifeboat station to have a look at the different types of boat that are used and to learn about what the R.N.L.I do.

Junior Camping Fun

Congratulations to Leading Junior ROBERTS and JNR Sellers for attending Middle Hill Junior training camp. We also had some camp craft fun at the unit, cooking our evening meals and putting up some tents.

Victorious at 5-a-Side

The junior boys football team (12-15 yrs) were entered into the district 5-a-side football tournament on Sat 22nd November. The boys went throught the tournament unbeaten and ended the evening victorious beating a team from Herne Bay 2-1in a very tense and exiting final.

The team will now go onto the Area final being held in Portsmouth in February.

The went Area football over the weekend of 7th 8th Feb. They managed to play very well and came away 3rd. A very good performance by all.

New Unit

The first step towards starting the build of the new unit started in earnest on Monday the 27th October. The diggers moved in to complete the Geo Technical Survey, once this is complete (results expected 14th Nov) we will now what extent the site will need to be excavated and the work can finally begin.

The Builder has also drawn up plans for the first steps towards our ideal unit. The Main Deck and Toilet facilities have been agreed and plans are being drawn up for submitting to the Council for planning permission.

Sponsored Canoe

The cadets have now competed the sponsored canoe. The journey from Canterbury to Sandwich Quay took 12 hours in all split over 2 days. So far the cadets have raised approximately £400. A big thank you to all those who helped or sponsored the Cadets.

District Athletics

The unit took part in the District Athletics Competition on Sunday the 29th June. There were some notable successes throughout the day, the Junior Section came second in the overall competition.

SABS

The senior cadets in the unit have just completed a weeks course on board HMS Bristol. The Cadets were undertaking waterbourne training in Pulling (Rowing), Sailing and Powerboating. Many of the cadets gained their first expereince of life on board an old Royal Navy ship. HMS Bristol is an old Navy Destroyer and has been converted to house cadets. The training was conducted by fully qualified instructors qualified by the Royal Yachting Association.
