Unit Treasurer Receives Prestigious Award

Lt-Cdr(SCC)(Retd) John Peskett RNR travelled to London in September 2006 to receive a prestigious award recognising his many years of service to the Sea Cadets in Bournemouth.

John received his Silver Medal for Meritorious Service from the President of the British Chamber of Shipping, Me Maurice Storey CB, at an awards ceremony at HMS PRESIDENT, Tower Bridge, London.

A former Royal Marine and policeman, Lt-Cdr Peskett's career with the Sea Cadets in Bournemouth began a very long time ago (he's asked us not to say exactly how long!). In the years since, he has held several positions including Officer Commanding the Marine Cadet Detachment, Commanding Officer (for the better part of 20 years) and finally serving on the Unit Management Committee after giving up command in the late 1980s.

On behalf of the cadets, past and present, the current Commanding Officer, Lt(SCC) P Budden RMR sends his warmest congratulations to John. BZ.

At the heart of our community

Bournemouth Sea Cadets is an independant charity with minimal financial support from the MoD(N). Most of our operational expediture is covered by the generosity of donors in Bournemouth, commercial sponsors and local Trusts. Without your support, quite simply, the Unit would not be able to continue running.

Make a difference

Are you excited about the Sea Cadet Corps? Have you seen these pages and wondered how you can get involved? You can make a difference to the lives of young people in several ways.

Be an adult instructor: have you got experience in engineering, seamanship, communications, expedition training or any of a dozen other skills that you'd like to pass on to others? Not afraid of standing up in front of hungry young minds? Then make a difference.

Contact the Commanding Officer if you'd like to visit and see how your skills can benefit the young people of Bournemouth.

Be a Committee Member: are you available to help manage Bournemouth Sea Cadets? Could you give a little time each month to improve our Unit further? Do you have innovative ways of raising funds to enable our work to continue? Then make a difference.

Contact the Chairman of the Unit Management Committee, Mike Fox, for more information.

Be a donor: there are many ways you can help: from Gift Aid to remembering Bournemouth Sea Cadets in your will. From sponsoring a boat or minibus to being responsible for sending a cadet on a five day Offshore Cruise. Maybe sponsor one of the Unit's Annual Awards? The possibilities are limited only by imagination; it's down to you to make a difference.

Contact the Commanding Officer or Chairman to find out more.

Whatever you do, however you are able to help: thank you.

The new Headquarters Project

For some time it has been apparent that our present unit headquarters in Wesley Close is nearing the end of its useful life. We are currently preparing to replace the building in a new location with a purpose-built facility.

Planning has been underway for some time and a number of potential sites have been identified. We are presently working with partners to confirm final details and costings before making any further public announcement.
