'ABOUT THE UNIT'
Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadets can be located in the Old Mission Hall, in Motherwell Street, Airdrie. The Unit was opened in 1943 and has seen a number of changes.
In 1999 Airdrie & Coatbridge Sea Cadet Unit opened a Marine Cadet Detachment. As such, we now have a Sea Cadet Section for young people between the ages of 12 and 17, a Marine Cadet Section, for young people between the ages of 13 and 17, and a Junior Sea Cadet Section, for young people aged 10 and 11, irrespective as to race, religion or creed.

The Sea Cadets The Sea Cadets aim to provide young people with an environment in which they can choose what they learn from a wide range of stimulating subjects and one in which they can have 'serious fun'! From the moment an individual joins the Sea Cadets, he or she will begin a journey of learning. How far they progress and how much they learn is ultimately down to the cadets themselves. However, regardless of background or means all cadets will be provided with the opportunities and support that they need.
Boating is an area where the the Sea Cadets has a long history of excellence. Cadets are able to gain Royal Yachting Association qualifications in dinghy sailing, windsurfing, offshore sailing and power boating, and British Canoe Union awards in canoeing.

The Marine Cadets
Fun and Teamwork! When you join the Marine Cadets, you can rest assured that there will be plenty of both. The Marine Cadets is the youth equivalent of the Royal Marines. Based alongside a Sea Cadet Unit, Marine Cadet Detachments share all of the same opportunities as Sea Cadets, but with an emphasis on amphibious operations.
Marine Cadets learn the combat skills of camouflage and concealment, how to storm a hostile beach from the sea, how to reach a rendezvous point with a map and a compass and how to handle the latest military assault weapons.

The Junior Cadet

The entire Junior Sea Cadet programme is participation based. This means that a Junior Cadet is credited with a module by turning up and taking part. there are no tests. Here are some examples of some activities a Junior Sea Cadet will participate in;
* Semiphore
* The Water Safety Certificate
* Compasses
