SABS, February 2010
Pictured here is the pulling boat being used to get our cadet and staff member qualified. As soon as we can get a new set of oars for our Unit ASC (pulling boat)then we will be doing more of this on the river during the summer.

Moving the Viking
This is the first time the Viking has not been on the trailer since it was rescued during the floods two years ago.
|
Trying to position her correctly on the trailer. Sadly the trailer has been borrowed and we now have no good trailer to put her on at the end of the season. Fundraising is now underway to allow us to purchase a new trailer. Should you have cash to spare and be feeling generous, we would love anything you can give!
|
Back where she belongs! She is already being used to teach the Cadets and occasionally to rescue the Cadets who have jumped ship.

Sailing at Farmoor
We have managed to join forces with Oxford Unit and have been going sailing at Farmoor recently. Here are a couple of shots. This shows 2 cadets being rescued after capsizing and the other boat gently sailing away!

Some of the Cadets practicing the same movement earlier in the day...when it was light enough to see the notes on the Bell Lyres!
|
On the same evening we were presented with a cheque by the Student Catering department from the Oxford and Cherwell College. The money was raised in memory of a young man, Kris Preece who had been training to be a Chef at the college. He had also been a very active member of our Unit and had gained many good qualifications, he was a Petty Officer Cadet and an excellent Bugle player. He is sorely missed.

Visit to the CNS Almirante Condell
Here are our Cadets sitting in the Ward room just after embarking at Portsmouth.
|
These hardy souls decided to stay on deck for as long as they could, thay managed about an hour before the rain and gales made them seek shelter...and Sick-bay.
|
Some of the Cadets enjoyed trying on the headgear in the Helicopter bay
|
Sick-bay was rather short on space when a sudden influx of rather green and white cadets decended on it.
|
One of our Cadets is lent some uniform and a seat on the Bridge while the Ship's laundry works its magic!

Sir contemplates a peaceful life while his Cadets are otherwise engaged in Sick-bay

Drill Competition 2008
Having won the District competition we were entitled to enter the Area Competition at Portsmouth in April 2008. Due to the unexpected snow the date had to be changed and we had to make a full team with some extra Cadets borrowed from Oxford and Banbury Units. Here are a few pictures of the day.

Halloween Disco Nov 2007
The Unit was invaded by various animals, aliens and apple-bobbers for our Halloween Disco. Great fun was had and all the Cadets competed for the best Fancy Dress, and the most apples collected.

Beach Party July 2007
On a hot July evening, our car-park was transformed into a tropical beach...well it was for those with a good imagination! We had a large sandpit, pool and "water feature". A disco, with music chosen by our own DJ-the CO, played throughout the evening, and we all enjoyed a BBQ. This was a fun evening, only possible due to the wonderful efforts made by our Committee.

Eynsham Fete
In July 2007 our Band played for the Parade at Eynsham fete. They headed the Parade and later did a performance in the arena. All the Cadets had a good time during their free time and many took home small prizes and lots of sweets!
